First Ever Doncaster Bash

Hurrah!

To celebrate me living there, and a mission to find The Best Pub in Doncaster.

Venue yet to be decided, but suggestions welcome :)

Edit: I shall be providing breakfast to one and all for a small contribution.

Edit 2: The Salutation (see Piston's post below) looks worth a start in!

Also, to prospective bashgoers:

Doncaster is very easy to get to by rail - it's on the main London-Glasgow line, and you can get direct trains from London King's Cross, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Scotland etc.

Edit: and as it's only half an hour away by train, I'll not be needing floorspace.
Edit edit: sod that, I'm not hanging round Donny train station at 11pm waiting for the last train!

How long would it take to drive to from south somerset?

Is flor space avialable.

(, Thu 10 Aug 2006, 23:54, Reply)
the internet says 4 hours

and floor space will be available, and one of my renowned cooked breakfasts for a small contribution.

(, Sat 12 Aug 2006, 13:07, Reply)
How small?

I'd like to baggsy floorspace if it's still available.

(, Tue 5 Sep 2006, 22:15, Reply)
Less than £30 return, and just after I will have earnt £300 in two weeks

means I can do this!

(, Thu 10 Aug 2006, 23:57, Reply)
Where can I sleep?

If anyone has floorspace, that'd be wonderful. If not, what's the cheapest hotel/B&B around?

(, Sun 13 Aug 2006, 17:19, Reply)
I will possibly have floorspace

I have no idea about B&Bs or the like though.

On page 2

Campanile Hotel Doncaster,
Rooms From: £30

However, for only £15 more, you could stay at the Belmont Hotel

I wouldn't bother with the Campanile, it's a dive.

If you just want a flop-house it's ok, but don't expect much. Also, remember Doncaster is a metropolitan area, a DN postcode does not mean it is anywhere near the town; Thorne (the Belmont) is at least 30mins drive away.

I've only just moved back here after eight years away so my local gen is a bit rusty, but if people can suggest a budget I will have a nose round and see what I can find.

(, Thu 17 Aug 2006, 1:05, Reply)
Cheers

Floorspace is to be preferred, but if not I'll find the cheapest place I can. Or get the last train home.

(, Thu 17 Aug 2006, 16:34, Reply)
Last train home from Donny

Means leaving at about 7:30ish I don't doubt. You're more than welcome at mine fella.

(, Thu 17 Aug 2006, 21:49, Reply)
Oh excellent

Thanks

(, Fri 18 Aug 2006, 14:22, Reply)
The last train to Cambridge from Donny (change at Stevenage) is at 22:02

or you could wait overnight and catch the first one back at 5.30...

(, Fri 18 Aug 2006, 1:03, Reply)
Hmm, that's no good

Ta

(, Fri 18 Aug 2006, 14:22, Reply)
Indeed

as Doncaster postcodes extend well into East Yorkshire and south Humberside.

(, Fri 18 Aug 2006, 1:05, Reply)
Would love to come to this,

but I have Ella all weekend.

Enjoy :)

(, Sat 12 Aug 2006, 9:14, Reply)
Bring Ella

and whoever we find to look after Bratfink can look after them both?

(, Sat 12 Aug 2006, 9:16, Reply)
oh go on then. well....maybe.

where the hell is Doncaster?

(, Sat 12 Aug 2006, 10:09, Reply)
It is on the East Coast Main Line

The stop before York, under 2 hours on the train from That London™

(, Sat 12 Aug 2006, 13:02, Reply)
And if you take a very fast train to Leeds

the only stop.

(, Mon 14 Aug 2006, 18:47, Reply)
South Yorkshire

I believe

ooo - the b3ta circus comes to town

Since I live in Doncaster I suppose it would be rude not to.

My first bash, be gentle.

As for locations, Donny isn't the most cosmopolitan of places, however, there is a decent little covered area with a few bar/eatery type places which generally has a less hectic atmoshpere than the rest of the town on a Friday night.

(, Sat 12 Aug 2006, 13:32, Reply)
Hmm...

I may well come to this

(, Sun 13 Aug 2006, 10:24, Reply)
whoops!

this is tonight, isn't it...

I won't be there

(, Fri 29 Sep 2006, 18:54, Reply)
I can make this

Due to locality, and also the fact that, well, I've never actually had a night out in Donny before. This should be "interesting"...

Done a bit of googling, this place comes CAMRA recommended: The Salutation, South Parade

This may also come in handy too.
::ATTENTION::

Please be advised that crash space is no longer available.

(, Thu 17 Aug 2006, 21:48, Reply)
I am no longer going

due to a disheartening lack of money

(, Sun 20 Aug 2006, 19:45, Reply)
yeah why not

*clicktifies*

EDIT: Working now, sorreh. *hates the fact i now have a fri/sat/sun only job*

(, Sun 20 Aug 2006, 22:20, Reply)
typical

just as i move from there, someone puts on a bash.

if i am oop norf visiting relatives i may attend - if not then i will stay in essex.

(, Mon 21 Aug 2006, 19:08, Reply)
Reet-o

How do these things work? Would people to prefer to just pitch up somewhere and stay there all night? Or do a little walkabout 'beer/food/more beer' type thing?

The Salutation is a good idea, it's central, yet just far enough away to not be full of cunts all night, though the locals might be a little stoic (in a prosaic, rather than philosophical sense). From there it is a five minute walk to a couple of good/reasonbly priced eateries

Whilst I am unable to offer any floor space, I am happy to pick people up and run them to wherever they need to be.

(, Mon 28 Aug 2006, 23:48, Reply)
Well

A lift back to Sheffield would be appreciated...

(, Tue 29 Aug 2006, 13:20, Reply)
Ahh, sorry

I meant pre-bash, not post.

Although if I decide to have a booze free night (unlikely) I would be happy to.

(, Wed 30 Aug 2006, 0:48, Reply)
Ah

That would in that case be welcome, I shall ensure to have the day booked off and I shall pass on my address at your address for a lift. Or perhaps, meeting people at Donny train station would be a much better idea? I can turn up there as well.

(, Wed 30 Aug 2006, 17:31, Reply)
A lift from Leeds would be great!

Or from the train station would be almost as good

(, Wed 6 Sep 2006, 9:07, Reply)
I'm afraid this is a non-starter for me now.

Maybe next time.

(, Mon 11 Sep 2006, 0:29, Reply)
.

Woo a Donny b3ta bash.

Might pop in for a pint or two.
