Just watched this Storyville documentary on the Amazing Randi, who was a magician who spent large swathes of time debunking, amongst others, Uri Geller. 1.5 hours long, and very much worth watching.

I loved the Alpha Project footage, I hadn't come across that before. The final portion on his personal life is fascinating and touching.

Was actually really interesting to have the split between the story and his personal circumstances. Worked well.

Got a personal "I missed you" + signed (and smudged) postcard from him with Tom of Finland -stamps some weeks ago. A friend went to The Amazing Meeting.

I can't put it into words, but I like those who use science.

Very entertaining. Doesn't he still have an unclaimed reward of a million dollars or somesuch for anyone able to prove they have psychic powers?

He mentioned it in the doc. Queries the fact that there isn't a massive queue outside the institute of people claiming it.

I liked how his boyfriend called him Amazing rather than James.

best of all the gay magicians.
Also, this season of Storyville is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend Particle Fever (about the Higgs discovery) and Northern Soul - Living for the Weekend.
And if you can't get iplayer, I have been informed by an unknown 3rd party that the slightly naughtier parts of the internet may or may not have a torrential amount of downloadable files in them. But that would be a terribly naughty thing to do. Ahem.
EDIT:
There's a lovely recent interview with Randi: Episode 137 of Penn's Sunday School

I assume this is a different 'Amazing Randy' to the one that used to feature on EuroTrash. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsJlhsGRbr4
