We've all had a drink, but there's no need for that.

Has anyone been to Russia? Does the internet give a distorted and vaguely racist impression that they are all rampant alcoholics with no sense of self-preservation?
Or are they all rampant alcoholics with no sense of self-preservation?

the majority of Russian men over, say, 35 are what you said. Hard to tell cos the rampant alcoholism makes them look older than they are. In the interest of not sounding too UKIP I should say I met two or three exceptions to this - lovely men in their 60s who could seriously knock it back but somehow never went nuts. But this is a country which sells beer from kiosks at any time of day, like we do here with mars bars.

On the flight back I was sitting next to a fat Russian kid - age 12ish - who, as soon as we'd left Russian soil, put on Brokeback Mountain. I suspect he wanted to see what the fuss was about without going to the gulag. His Mum turned it off when it got to the bumming. I'm acutely aware that this didn't answer your question or, indeed, have anything to do with it.

weather got super-shite, and nobody was going to pick up three soaked through tubby Cagoule-pricks; even for a bit of random killing.
After a miserable hour or so of walking, with about 12 hours more ahead (and I had resigned to that) I ended up in a small town, all kiosks and shops shut. The only sign of life was a surprising number of 13 year olds with vodka, tablet (that condensed milk sugar, thing) and mobile phones.
They chose not to random kill us, and instead called us a taxi.
I slept in a shithole B&B as I had intended in Irkutsk.
I note that they sell IRN BRU in Russia. Could that be relevant?
