A Shomrim has been operating in north London for about ten years without causing any problems as far as I'm aware.
If the Met spent less time investigating imaginary "hate crimes" and people being mean to each other on Twitter and actually took serious crimes like burglary seriously they probably wouldn't feel the need to exist.

I don't have a problem with eruvs.
I think they are utterly ridiculous, but they are harmless and unobtrusive, and I feel that people opposed to them aren't truly motivated by an objection to a wire atop of some poles.

I agree that Curb is very much an acquired taste,
but I think calling Frasier unwatchable is more than a little harsh. I'm quite sure that Friends would have been a little lowbrow and trite for your tastes, but its international success speaks volumes. I never really got Seinfeld, but many comedians speak very highly of it. Some of my friends rate the american version of The Office but I didn't see much of that.

No one gives them guns. And there are extremely invasive federal and state background checks.
Unfortunately, criminals and insane people don't always obey the law, which is why gun free cities like Chicago, New York and Los Angeles have so many gun related homicides. The victims are usually black, so the media and academics rarely take notice, but it happens daily.

How come other countries used to allow guns,
and then said "actually we're not going to allow guns any more", and so everyone (almost) handed in their guns, and they have almost no fucking gun crime.

A great deal of it is gang related and it's only become worse with the porous southern border. With the sex trafficking and drugs, guns are used to protect territory. And, cheap guns from Yugoslavia and China tend to flow north across the border.
