"Because of the EU, we've had 70 years of peace."

Tell that to the Yugoslavians, the Irish, the Italians, anyone in the Eastern Bloc...

Although I imagine this is the sort of simplistic shit that goes down a storm on Facebook.

This is a normal post I'm pretty sure there haven't been any international wars between EU members, which was the point.
Ireland and Yugoslavia were internal, Italy's war completely passed me by, and the Eastern Bloc weren't even in the EU.

This is a normal post Ireland's war was internal?
I think those on the British mainland who were attacked or killed might disagree.

This is a normal post Was the government of the Republic of Ireland at war with the government of the UK?
No.

Was the IRA et.al. acting on the instructions of either government?

No.

And Baader-Meinhof...and ETA...and OAS / FLN...

There are many good arguments for the EU, but the "70 years of peace" is disingenuous in the extreme. It ignores American nukes and cruise missiles, MAD etc., which pretty much guaranteed peace for the first 50 years or so of that.

States fight when it's in their interest. With luck, the collapse of the EU will lead to a new round of European wars, clear out the dead wood, cut down the population, lead to new scientific advances, send much of today's feckless welfare scum off to die as cannon fodder, and finally get rid of the epidemic of self-absorption that leads to such modern maladies as depression and gender fluidity.

This is a normal post because people who've experienced modern warfare never suffer from things like depression do they?
I think you / your spawn should enlist if you think combat is so beneficial to the soul. Bin the tragic office job and the Mondeo, lose a few pounds, see the world

This is a normal post PTSD is a *good* reason for depression
"Oooh, I'm a bit unsatisfied with my life, and everyone else is having a better time according to their Facebook pictures" is a *bad* reason to be depressed.

Also, nowhere did I say combat benefited individuals, mongchops.

This is a normal post Yugoslavia happend like a decade before those states even joined the EU.
Apparently you misunderstood what they are saying at 1:38. It doesn't make any "disingenuous" claims of peace on the European continent.

The point they are making is that there has not been a single war between member states of the Union; something that used to be a common occurrence.

Hey, just two weeks ago Spanish warships where intercepted by the Royal Navy at Gibraltar. This would have been unthinkable pre Brexit. Suddenly it matters again to whom some shitty rock belongs. Go figure.

This is a normal post I haven't watched the video
But the "EU creates peace" seems like a chicken and egg scenario. The EU might have created conditions that made war between members less likely. On the other hand the EU might have flourished because the member states had cordial relations. Probably a bit of both.

This is a normal post "Unthinkable pre Brexit"
That's totally untrue. There have been similar skirmishes many times over the years long before Brexit. Why do you remainers lie all the time?
(, Fri 14 Apr 2017, 14:48, Reply)
This is a normal post Those skirmishes have a different quality now
Unthinkable in the sense that shit like this might actually escalate. Nukes are great to keep the commies out but aren't really much so of a deterrent for minor conflicts. Thatcher didn't nuke Argentina either. Would have been fucking unreasonble wouldn't it?

Not a remainer, not a even a Brit. Tho a little bit peeved that you send all those sweet moneys to the NHS now...

beyond a bit of posturing brinkmanship is hysterical nonsense. Your invocation of nukes is absurd. Next you'll start bringing up Hitler.

'Unthinkable pre-Brexit'? Google Spanish incursions into Gibraltan waters you utter fuck-knuckle. The Dagos have been doing this for fucking decades. And the Royal Navy has intercepted them every single time.
