rich kid spends all his pocket money on a company, where people don't know that they're supposed to shield boy idiot from actual operations.
musk is not smart. he's lucky. lucky in inheriting a fortune. at the right place, right time with money to translate that into mega money.
if you hire the right people at the right time, and you have money to burn, you should succeed. if you think that your company's success is solely a result of your amazing technical, foreseeing, managing skills; you are sadly deluded. end of line.
