Just look at the height of the rectangles on the Mercator projection and give your head a wobble.
Why is the Northern hemisphere stretched vertically while the tropics are squashed? Why might that view of the Earth have been in favour in the past?
Non-Mercator style world maps have been a thing for a long time btw, I had one as a kid 30-odd years ago, it's nothing new. I think I understand how map projections work. Why do you think it's stupid to distort the flat map in one way but not another?
This might seem like a totally random and unconnected question, but do you think information about slavery should be absent from the visitor's information at National Trust and English Heritage properties?
