This is a normal post No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
The fact that the film leaves questions unanswered isn't enough, because they might be fucking stupid questions. Alien left interesting questions - as he notes - about the wreck, the space-jokey, and so on. Prometheus left questions like, "How in the hell did that get made?"

The earlier films, with a bit of imagination, were sort-of plausible: the idea that there's at least two alien species out there, and that at least one of them is a very hungry predator, and that we might one day bump into them, isn't such a leap. (Hell, even AvP fits into that.) There's nothing too silly there: all the characters are just as in the dark as we - save for Ash. But even there, the mystery is straightforwardly about how the Weyland Corp knew about LV-426.

Prometheus might have shed some light on that question. But, really, it doesn't. We have no idea why Weyland is so convinced that going to LV-223 is going to solve any of his problems - and, at the same time, the LV-426 question remains unanswered, delegitimising the whole Prometheus project.

It's often OK to leave open questions. But not always. And the open questions here were not questions that the characters would have asked; they are plainly thrown in for one of two reasons. The first of these is that the writers just thought "Oooh, open questions.... WOOooOOOoooOOO." The second is so that there's an excuse for a sequel. The first of these reasons is indicative of very poor writing (it could have been achieved with an appearance from the Care Bears, for example. Why would they be included? Ooooh, open question... WOOooOOOoooo). The second of them is indicative of a deep contempt for the audience.

So I'm tempted to agree with the guy when he says that we ought not to look at Prometheus with eyes that've seen Alien, but to take it on its own terms. Fair enough.

But that makes it even worse, because it makes no sense as a stand-alone.

We don't know why David spikes the drink. (He can't have been programmed to do that if this is the first contact humanity has had with the goo; and, again, if it isn't, it's unclear what Prometheus is on about. He can't have expected the result he got; it's just the random action of a small child... or a gratuitous plot device the only explanation of which is that it's necessary to move the story along.) We're supposed to believe that the alien species that will become the xenomorph can have a complete phenotypic makeover within the space of a generation - and that a generation can last as little as 24 hours. We're supposed to believe pseudo-goddy Erich von Däniken Chariots of the Gods stuff about humanity's origins - which involves accepting that humanity's proven genetic similarity to every single other species currently on the planet counts for nothing... unless the white dude at the start seeded all life on Earth. Does this matter? Yes, because much is made of genetic analysis. If you're going to do genetic analysis in the script, then you have to be at least plausible about it.

We're asked to believe that it's possible to reconstruct - perfectly - a language spoken by an alien species before humanity evolved. Given the impossibility of fully reconstructing proto-Indo-European, let alone primal human language per se, that's just daft. So's the idea that even a robot might be able to work that alien species' technology faultlessly at the first attempt.

We're asked to believe that dream-reading is possible, ffs. Why? Because the script is so shoddy that whatserface needs a Goddy backstory crowbarred in - again, there's a deep contempt for the audience here, because it's really not necessary to have any backstory at all - and that's the only way the piss-poor writers could do it.

And... breathe!

I could go on. In other threads, I probably will.

This is a normal post TL; DR version:
Prometheus is still crap.

This is a normal post I still liked it and many others did too
if you wanted Alien 5 then of course it would be disappointing. I'm hopeful and if the sequel doesn't answer anything and is just as confusing then I'll agree with you but I'm sure it won't be.

This is a normal post thank you.

This is a normal post I could happily answer all of that but I didn't actually want to start spoiler discussions that get into specific plot ponts on here
But how you can be confused by Weylands interest in meeting his makers at that point in his life is a tad beyond me to say the least, he specifies his interest very clearly many times.

Also you seem to answer half of your questions in your next sentence, but David makes it very clear why he does what he does right before he does it, combined with the fact he has no more need to care about the life of one man than the Engineers, androids in this universe are NOT Isaac Asimov approved.

This is a normal post My biggest issue with Prometheus was def the entire genetics part of the plot
Things like that do nothing but spread ignorance. If they had changed the genetic link, making the "Makers" into a more intergalactic self proclaimed police force, checking up on planet evolution and using the Aliens (facehuggers removed from eggs and put inside the vases for more secure transport) to scourge dangerous planets.

Wayland going there to plunder the maker tech to live longer (instead of waking up a maker and finding out that he wasn't a morning person)

This is a normal post I don't think he was a maker
I think he was just a grunt with a job to do.

This is a normal post As I saw it
the David/drink bit was insinuating that David was waiting to see whether or not Holloway would act like a cock to him because he was a robot; he decided that Holloway was a cock, and deserved to have whatever the tainted drink might do to him. The sequence suggested to me (and I'm not saying I'm correct, it's just how I interpreted it) that David might have developed a "soul", because spiking the drink was so illogical it cannot/should not have been done by a robot.
