that'll be john lennon and jimi hendrix too i take it?
or is it just urban music stars who aren't allowed to slap women about?
not defending chris brown (or hendrix or lennon) just saying.
and for her argument about not separating the music from the man:
pablo picasso: wife beater
salvidor dali: fascist supporter, homophobic.
wagner: hated the jews.
disney: hated the jews.
this women is using this "story" to get herself publicity... using the image of a battered women to put forward a hypocritical argument....
fuck her.

But I like to see someone go off on a decent, unrestrained rant against a deserving target. I haven 't heard his album but can well imagine that it's ticking a lot of generic boxes and not my cup of tea whatsoever.
I didn't know that about those other famous bods (apart from Disney). Bernhard Manning wasn't a wife beater at least ;-)

Massive hypocricy surrounding this case.
Review an album = review it, don't review the character of the person who made it. If you've got really a problem with them, then at least try to show how their character influenced their art, why that means it's bad. This reviewer didn't even try.

"Till I Die is a catastrophic misogynistic shit of song." Probably what I'd expect from a catastrophic misogynistic shit of a man.

She's failed to engage with the subject she's paid to write about.
Bad journalism.

any man who raises his hands to a woman deserves a very public chastisement, and given the amount of publicity this prick has had recently i'd say fair play.
chris brown is shit, when i see him on tv i turn it over, when i hear his music i turn it off, he's a prick

and a woman hitting a man?
( , Wed 1 Aug 2012, 11:57, Reply)

Although, generally, men are capable of hitting harder and for longer. In my experience, both sexes can be quick to throw a punch, but men tend to not stop as easily once they start. This is just my personal experience, which I'm sad to say is rather extensive.
My ex broke my jaw into 5 separate pieces and partially detached the retina in my right eye in one single attack that went on some time.
While not unknown, it seems to happen less the other way.

but in the current new wave of feminists fighting against supposed misogyny there is a hell of a lot of hypocrisy, bias and outright ignoring of plain statistics, this includes violence against men by women which something like 30% of men report whereas the number for women is way higher. Obviously men can have the capacity to hit harder, but women do too it's not unheard of, if you hit a man you can't just go "I'm a woman and possibly weaker therefore you can't hit me back", and again it works both ways, I just feel there's a crop of double standards popping up in these neo feminist arguements that really need to be quashed.
oh god nearly 6 years here and this is my first rant on b3ta.

I think this is allowed.

Never liked his music in the first place, i'm sure if Garry Glitter was to release a new album people wouldn't separate his private life from his music either, just being an artist and releasing an album doesn't mean people need to forgive you your sins or even brush them under the carpet.
She went off tangent and probably judged the music in regards to his personal life and her hatred of him but i'm under no illusion that she's spot on and the album is shit.
As for Lennon, Hendrix etc. The media weren't the beast they are today back then in regards to 'stars' private lives, hindsight however is a wonderful thing.

Or maybe it's rather to raise public awareness of a very real problem.
If the person that would end up getting my money was someone whose life style and actions I might find especially reprehensible, I do think it would be relevant to my consumer decisions to know such facts.
Good job publicly naming and shaming a pig, I say. Maybe all those people you listed should've been called out too.

and surely its a powerful argument on her case if she had mentioned that what chris brown did has been done by people not that you already hate... but by artists you love...
wouldn't that make people think more deeply about the issue? rather than just jumping on a hate bandwagon and not actually changing opinions.
( , Wed 1 Aug 2012, 13:55, Reply)

If I love an artists, then find out that he or she is actually a violent asshole, it doesn't make me "think more deeply about the issue". It makes me re-assess my opinion of the artist I used to like, and not like them anymore. You are not making any sense at all.
