This is a link post Eadweard Muybridge: Panorama of San Francisco 1878
Stunning panorama of SanFran by the photographer better known for racing horses through tripwires.
This scene was pretty much wiped from the face of the earth in the 1906 earthquake.
I have assembled the 13 images (shot by 13 cameras) into one in tattyshop and it looks fantastic...but the file size is huge, any offers to host it or ideas where I can appreciated.

This is a normal post You should
put a request out on Reddit. Am sure some of the SF web dev companies would host that for you

This is a normal post Ooooh, now THAT is bloomin interesting!
Specially so when you realise that's 132 years ago, THREE years before the gunfight at the OK corral, and TEN years before Jack the Ripper did his 'thing' over in London!
The tall ships over in the harbour make this for me :)

This is a normal post Isn't it.
I was reading about the Tate exhibition about him and did a bit more research to find the 13 plates. Check out the link to the c**t who put a fence around three sides of someones property!

This is a normal post Looking at it further it's kind of an inadvertent snap shot of the end of an era.
The next decade saw an explosion of technology. First combustion engine by MercBenz, radiowaves, phonographs, skyscrapers....
It is a bit eerie. You could think that the photo was maybe as late as the 40's (?) love the tall ships too. I wonder how long it took for Muybridge to travel to SF?

This is a normal post Shorpy
I'm sure you internet savvy people already know, but there's lots of other wonderful old photography on the shorpy.com site. Cool one of Custer here: www.shorpy.com/George-Armstrong-Custer-1 from 1865, and lots of others like it.

This is a normal post Nice!
You could use something like zoomify. I think there are a few panorama specific sites out there too. This is woo-some!
