This is a question Bodge Jobs

If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of duck tape, it's not worth fixing at all, my old mate said minutes before that nasty business with the hammer and a roll of duck tape. Tell us of McGyver-like repairs and whether they were a brilliant success or a health and safety nightmare.

DUCT TAPE.
IT'S. CALLED. DUCT. TAPE.

I don't know why people saying duck tape annoys me so much, but it does.

I once fixed a chillum with some blue tac. Do not try this at home kids. It turns out inhaling blue tac fumes makes you choke and be unable to breath for a good minute.

Actually "duck tape" came first

Hmmmm, a link to a company called duck tape's website,
and lo the website says duct tape was called duck tape first, oh, and by the way duck tape is the best brand on the market.

I call bullshit. It's called duct tape.
(, Fri 11 Mar 2011, 10:19, closed)
Well it's all called that now, aside from the specifically branded "Duck Tape"
but historically duck tape does precede duct tape
(, Fri 11 Mar 2011, 10:25, closed)
Just looked it up on wiki and they say it could be either way.
There used to be a thing called cotton duck tape to which adhesive could have been added, but then again the phrase duct tape could be a preservation of the original name, for doing duct work.

EDIT: Whatever came first doesn't really matter anyway, as it is now called Duct Tape. Language and names evolve, so duct tape is in fact correct.

Best toolbox ever:
Duct tape (to stick things together)
WD40 (to unstick things)
Big hammer (just 'cos)

Plus a small pair of pliars to pull things out.

Don't forget that the ignore button only works if you start a new thread telling everybody that you've ignored somebody.

Once again a link to the website of a company that is called Duck Tape.
Hardly an impartial source of information, is it? I thought you lot were meant to be students, yet you seem incapable of researching something.

I just looked in the OED, and both are listed. It says duck tape may have come first, but there is no evidence for this.

So, it would seem that they are indeed synonyms, but people that say duck tape are cunty knob-fucks.
