My missus is from the West Midlands (oop north as far as I am concerned) and she constantly refers to a roundabout as an island. Causes much confusion when she is trying to give directions to a Southener.

"would you like a ride on that island"
this may not work as a way of fixing her mistake.

roundabouts (the traffic kind) are referred to as 'circles'.

The "midlands" are not "oop north" - even a cretinous southerner like yourself must have spotted the clue in the name: "mid-lands", as in "the lands that are in the middle". Not in the north, not in the south, but in the middle.
You fucking southern fairy cunt.

it's all these years of living in the south, innit bruv. warped my fragile little mind.

I don't really see the Midlands as up north. It just winds my Missus up, so I naturally pretend I do a lot.
Although, I do come from South Devon so almost everywhere in the UK is up north.

and some of my best friends are Plymothians...it amuses me no end when they sing "dirty northern bastards" at Argyle matches, no matter who they're playing because every other team's north of Plymouth.

Someone told me I look like that little bloke off lord of the rings, but I look nothing like orlando bloom, and anyway I'm from the middle-lands not middle earth.

... driving around the ring road, I would stop and ask for directions to be told "go past the first island, then at the next island turn right".
I went round the fucking ring road 5 times looking for a fucking lake before I realise what they meant.
