This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

I'll tell you what ISN'T Common
Pouring the milk before you pour the tea. Pouring the milk first makes the milk mix with the hot water less, meaning your tea doesn't taste like scalded milk. So there.

What's really common is checking the contents of your hankerchief after a big blow. What do you really expect to see in there, eh?

As someone else posted earlier
It's actually because high quality porcelain would be less likely to crack if you poured the milk first to take the heat out of the tea.

Nothing to do with the taste, you can't scald milk with tea since it can't possibly be over 100 degress.

Did they?
That'll teach me to post before reading other posts.
Meh, I think it tastes different, but maybe that's just me.

Adding the milk
afterwards means you don't overmilk your tea! I hate tea that's too milky.

Also, I check my hankie for Nazi gold.

We don't
Own a teapot...

So I pore the milk last as the tea mixes quicker, my mum however, adds the milk first as she hates the taste of tea and is it weak anyway so why she even bothers having tea? ...I KNOW! how can we not own such a necessity as a teapot?!

hmmmm
'makes the milk mix with the hot water less' sorry bud but that makes no sense at all. If you pour the water onto the milk it would actually mix more. Not sure where you were going with that one...

the face of the madonna?
an undiscovered shakespearean sonnet?
