Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."
My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.
What stuff do you think is common?

took her ipod out of her bag. looked at it. SUCKED THE EARPIECES CLEAN. then put them into her ears and happily deafened the rest of us with her shit music for the rest of the journey.
it gets no more common than this.

imagine the faces of the people on the tube as they watched this, each glancing around to make sure they aren't the first to say anything.
And then maybe, just maybe, one person might cough and say "errm, excuse me, would you mind not doing that, it's just my daughters very sensitive".
But more likely everyone would just look at the adverts and pretend it wasn't happening.

Is an excellent phrase. In this case hork means something different to what colonel dracula meant.

Although, I have never seen anyone do that before, so it can't be all that common.

I doubt she was sucking them clean. Crappy iPod headphones have a tendency to crackle and sucking on them seems to sort it out, albeit temporarily.
Coincidentally, I'm pretty sure I learned that from a b3ta newsletter top tip.

but i think i'd prefer to crackle/replace them. after all, you wouldn't stick your finger in your ear and then in your mouth, would you?!
