This is a question Crap Gadgets

We wanted a monkey butler and bought one off eBay. Imagine our surprise when we found it was just an ordinary monkey with rabies. Worse: It had no butler training at all. Tell us about your duff technology purchases.

Thanks to Moonbadger for the suggestion

Do you prefer to go in wet or dry? The Electric Shaver
I get these for christmas occasionally. They generally seem to work okay for a while, but then they start to leave random stray hairs that you just can't seem to get rid of no matter how much you rub the damn thing over your face. They also give me peculiar rashes, like carpet burn.

Give me a wet shave any day - Quite impressed with the Gillette Fusion razors, they seem to last forever.

My mother bought me a really good Panasonic shaver for christmas one year.
It was waterproof so you could "use it in the shower" or use it with foam.
Problem was when used dry it tended to either leave uneven stubble or scrape my poor, sensitive skin. It was great when used with foam but no better or quicker than disposables.
Now I just use hair clippers on my beard and live with the stubble -- I'm a man (or there abouts), for fuck's sake, my face doesn't have to be as smooth as a baby's arse.

Agree
Wet shave is the only way to go, but I bought a shedload of Wilkinson Sword Profile Plus blades from Blademail. They're an obsolete twin-blade (yes, only 2) head that has a little piece of plastic between the blades that can be moved in and out to clear them of hair build-up.
Of course, the arms race between WS and Gillette means that they've all got at least 4 blades now, with protector wires and daft names.

Two blades
is one too many.

Wet is the only way
Always use razors, never get a rash. Every year or two I have to spring for a new one of these:

I wouldn't use anything else. They last for ages.

cheap bic razors
Last for ages, but a bit too sharp to start off with.
So I only use them after the wife has had a go at her legs with them.

ladyshaves are just as bad
they're fine for about a week, then they cut your legs and rip skin from your underarms.
the hairs they leave in peace.

Is the Fusion the new Mach 3?
The Mach 3's been irreplaceable for ages, but I'm sure we can improve on it. We have the technology.

I feel slightly sad for discussing this but...
It's this one:

www.gillette.com/en/gb/products/razors/Fusion-gamer/gamer-manual.aspx

Five blades, one on the back (precision trimmer). Quite what it's got to do with 'Gaming' is anyone's guess!

its so that nerdy 13 year olds can claim to shave whilst ripping you throat out online

Hmm
Looks like it's pretending to be a toothbrush. The 'precision blade for under the nose' idea is a good'un, though.
