So the topic's skin tonight?

Mine's Scottish Blue.

Even if I expose it to sunlight it doesn't tan. It burns, peels and then eventually turns slightly off-white. If I'm careful enough not to let it burn, it goes slightly less off-white.

Which means I usually keep covered up, and I therefore will never shrivel up like old Americans seem to do.

Sunscreen factors
I've never quite understood the logic of that argument, MM. Isn't UV dosage time dependent? So 1 hour with factor 15 is equivalent to 4 minutes with no sunscreen on.

Even with my sensitive skin, I never bother with anything more than factor 15, as I spend so little time in the sun.

Shrivelled Americans
are caused by the 60s and 70s era infatuation with tanning and a lack of understanding about sun damage.

Additionally, in case you hadn't noticed we're a bit closer to the equator than you lot, so the sun is just a bit more intense over here.

That said, my skin burns once in the spring, then tans for the rest of the summer- and I have almost no wrinkles at the age of 45. Neener neener neener.

My youngest sister.
She's adopted from sri lanka. She spent so much time watching me and my other sister on the sunbed trying to get brown when she was a nipper that she now has the best attitude towards her very dark skin. She even tries to get darker when she goes on holiday and shows us her tan lines : )

I'm a strictly factor 15 girl and remain pale all year round. It's something I've come to accept and even like over the years as it's that or horribly burnt. Already had three skin cancer scares with a few moles removed - turned out to be melanomas, no not of the cancerous variety) after working with kids outdoors all summer long. So I'm now resigned to being milky white while all my friends go a deep golden tan.

For one thing, people born in Wales get FREE university education - provided they study in wales whereas the English have to pay wherever they study. I think they do a similar thing in Ireland and Scotland.

I'm grand thanks A. Had my haircut this evening instead of going to a puppy training session that I really shouldn't have missed, but it's the last one for a few weeks, so it would mostly have been a congratulations/award ceremony instead and as I haven't been to any others I didn't feel bad missing it.

So instead I had a lovely long head massage and splendid haircut that was 20% off as they did an impromptu teaching session for the floor sweeper who wants to be a hairdresser as they hardly ever get women in with short hair :)

I was a smoker for *counts* 15 years and I have no lines, fine or otherwise. My mother and father are already in or rapidly approaching their 70s and are not wrinkly at all. So I think a lot of it is due to sun exposure and genetics than other sources.

i think
it's mostly genetic. i've got friends who panic about missing sleep and eating chocolate because of spots, but still get them. i can go for days with no sleep and eating rubbish or days of 6 hours a night and loads of fresh fruit/veg and water, and my skin looks exactly the same; i'm v lucky there.

now if only i could say the same thing for the dreaded stomach!

can occur from too much sleep. If I have a couple of lazy days (which is not that often!) when I sleep in a bit, I'm all bunged up the following day.

But it's not usually a problem.
