Fancy Dress Failures Pt 2
Janet Aylia asks, "Did you go all-out only to find you'd fallen for the age-old 'you're the only one who dressed up' gag? Did you wrap yourself in cotton wool and ketchup and offend the local vicar by dressing as a tampon?"

I would.
Thankfully I don't have to wear a silk ribbon around my neck any more -- but wearing a useless, thin, cotton garment which opens at the front letting the wind in and trousers made out of impractical fabrics and shoes made without any though to how they might be of any practical use seems to be one of the problems of modern office life.
Still, it keeps us in our place.

or you could work with a hi-vis vest and steel-capped boots instead
chances are you'd be allowed more dignity and self-respect than you would in either of the above scenarios

Indeed.
I have been lucky enough to wear Hi-Viz and steelies and there's nothing finer. I didn't last long enough for rigger boots though, sadly.
There's no costume about that kind of outfit.

And worse still, I bet your dad made you attend a christening in it once.

Worse!
I've had to attend three funerals in damn smart trousers!
Thankfully my more recent ones are specially imported.

I work in an office and wear what the fuck I want.
It must suck to be you.

That's still no justification for turning up in a onesie, though.
