This is a question B3TA fixes the world

Moon Monkey says: Turn into Jeremy Clarkson for a moment, and tell us about the things that are so obviously wrong with the world, and how they should be fixed. Extra points for ludicrous over-simplification, blatant mis-representation, and humourous knob-gags.

It's more the reference to "sand monkeys" that I perceived to be racist.
Quite a lot of Muslims are caucasian, black, asian, &c, &c.

I didn't call anyone a sand monkey
That's racist!

No, but your OP was in response to our calling Que racist because of it.

No
I clicked it, not because I liked his post, but because in this day and age you WILL get called a bigot for pointing out the faults of certain religions, yet it's rather par for the course to insult Christianity at every other moment.

My point isn't aimed at Islam at all, but at the reactionary fuckwits who can't differentiate between racism and criticism of the above.

Y'see. I'm not trying to be arsey, just making a point.

That's a valid argument.
Not one that I agree with, but it's a debate to be had.

But you may have chosen a better post to state you liked to make that point, as you are fairly fundamentally undermined by the 'sand monkey' thing, whether you like it or not.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 10:11, closed)
I guess so.

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 10:13, closed)
Hmmm.
Que's use of the term, and thus the post, was racist, due to the use of the term "sand monkeys".

You appear to endorse this, or at the very least, publically overlook it in favour of endorsing his point about Islam.

That seems disagreeable to me, as I don't condone racism in any form, even if - I would even hazard especially if - it precludes a larger point I agree with.

fair enough
I think.... What my point is... Is... why it is socially acceptable to rip into Christianity and offend Christians, but any mention of offending Islam and suddenly you're worse than Hitler?

I guess I shouldn't have *clicked* Que's post, but some parts I agreed with, although not the racist elements. I wasn't very clear in my post, and being honest yesterday I had a nasty debate with some self-righteous, politically correct types who can't see past their own opinions and jumped down my throat simply because I made a very passive comment about fundamentalism. Next time I'll explain myself slightly better.

Peace all.

I absolutely agree about religion, particularly Islam.
My objection is specifically that Islam is not a race, and to link it to such disingenuous at the very least.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 10:37, closed)
Actually
I think that was me using a blunt argument to make a point when I should have been more careful with how I phrased things.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 10:39, closed)
No no - it was what I objected to in Que's post.

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 10:46, closed)
Ah, I see.
It's just I know that I did it in my first reply above.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 10:49, closed)
No, you just endorsed it.

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 10:10, closed)
Endorsed what?
political correct wankers or militant Islam or racism?
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 10:11, closed)
Don't worry
I wrote that before the other parts of the conversation above took place, I think it's been addressed.

Having not seen the original post......
I have an image of a small happy little simian dancing across the dunes when I hear the term Sand Monkey....or is it just some kind of dissapointing shrimp creature like those bloody Sea Monkeys I bought when I was little. I'd get pretty militant if that was the case.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 13:10, closed)
Yes
I'm quite aware. And once again, I didn't call anyone that.
