Subtitles.Normally, I prefer watching foreign films or TV in the original language, with subtitles on. They don't really bother me, and I do it enough that I can watch something looking centre screen and still read without missing the action. But I hate yellow subtitles. Hate them with a passion, it feels like they're burning into my eyes. Sadly, I don't think they're going away any time soon. I seem to recall an interview with someone in the foreign film/TV localization business where they said there's some sort of rule or standard out there, limits releases to using white or yellow, no other colours. Still, I'd really prefer the white ones.

It's justthat yellow or white are the highest contrast.
Most subtitles have a contrasting stroke round the edge - normally black. Yellow or white are the best contrast against it.
Having lived abroad for more than 10 years, my experience is that most people prefer the soundtrack in the original, with subtitles. The only case where people prefer dubbed sound is where they either have literacy issues, or are kids.

I just don't like it when they use a white font and it pasted over the white fucking backgroundno black border for the text either!

Nahthe worst thing is a black and white film with white subtitles but presented over the frames that have a majority of white in shot.
La Haine is a good example - excellent film, but unless i learn French i miss out on about 50% of the dialogue. Black and white films should have blue or red subs.

all it needsis one pixel of the opposite colour around the subs. Then whatever the background colour is, you can see them clearly.

LolI prefer yellow, since white tends to suffer more from blending in with the shot. But ideally, yellow or white with a black border, then you can read on almost any background. Also, I hate shit subtitles that miss the meaning, or when the pacing is wrong. It's a tricky art, and not enough do it right.
