Dear Shane
Yes, we did notice that you got away without paying for your meal on Friday night. The extra money put down was supposed to be a tip for the waiter - not for you to have (yet another) free meal.

We also notice when you slip a fiver in when we all have a takeaway instead of the 20 that everyone else puts in, despite you, as usual having more food than anyone else.

Yes, I did remember that when I bought all that stuff back from the US for you - with receipts - that I only got the dollar amount back in pounds. When it says "100 dollars" I was expecting 50 quid (this was when it was pretty much 2/1)- NOT 25 - it's not that way around!

You moaned at me for not bringing you more stuff back this time - can you imagine why I didn't?

You may think that we're stupid for not noticing, but we do. We just didn't want our night ruined again by bringing it up and you getting in a mood after being asked to pay your own way.

You may notice the invites are starting to drop off a little perhaps?

Maybe you can work out why.

There's a fine line between being tight-fisted, and ripping your mates off.

You have crossed it.

Yours,

Pretty much all of us who have ever been out in a restaraunt or had a takeaway with you.

Oh my God - I have known people like this. I feel your pain!

It was
my GF's birthday Friday, and she really didn't want to invite him, but she did because he invited her to his.

So on her birthday, instead of a card or something, we ended up paying for his meal as well as our own.

I thought it odd that my share came to 60 quid for a 14 quid meal.

It's your own fault if you're going to let yourself get walked all over

(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 12:18, closed)
Well...
yes and no.

If we're all out having a good time, I hardly want to be the one that causes a scene and ends up ruining everyone's night.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 12:23, closed)
Yeah I suppose I can see it from that angle
With regards to the thing about you buying him a load of stuff from the states and him underpaying you though, can't believe you didn't pull him up on that straight away!
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 12:33, closed)
Have a quiet word before the next one.
It's not as if you'll miss him as a "friend". Make sure your mates back you up though.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 12:33, closed)
Yeah.
I did pull him up on it - to start with he said "Oh yeah, I'll give you the rest on pay day."

Then when I asked him on pay day his reply was "I gave you that, I'm sure of it."

So now, when he asks, the answer is always no.

been there a few times before.
I hate it when this happens. You're out and the bill comes, you decide to split the bill equally, it doesn't matter if you didnt have as many drinks as blah or only had pasta, blah, but the cardinal sin is using other people's tips to pay for your own meal, and then you all have to scuttle out ashamed as the waitress realises she has bust her balls for an hour or so. for. nothing.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 12:38, closed)
Exactly
He doesn't drink, so long before the bill came he was saying "How many drinks have you had etc..." in an effort to pay less than the rest of us (which is quite fair) as he only had Diet Cokes all night.

However, usually, as you say, we'll split the bill equally - sometimes it's still short despite all of us paying over what we had, it's then that we realise, yet again that he's not put in, or only put a 5th of what he should put in, and he's already left as he's "got to help my mum with someting" or an equally weak excuse.

People that drink soft drinks in restaurants
spend just as much as people who drink alcoholic drinks due to the obscene mark ups on soft drinks. So that's not an argument.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 14:36, closed)
Not entirely true.
A pint costs around 3.20-3.50 where we are.

A Diet Coke is exactly £1. Even if he were drinking pints of it, he's still 1.20-1.50 better off.

I agree that it's not much of an argument though - especially since that difference in drinks prices he's had back many, many times in free/heavily discounted meals.

What a momumental bell-end.
Fuck him, start making a fuss.

Shane is a cock
I knew people like that. I got rid of them.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 12:57, closed)
He's
been called a lot worse. Not least over this weekend just gone.

Sounds like an absolute
cunt.

I tend to find the longer it goes on the more the tight fisted morons think it's o.k. you need to nip it in the bud to be kind to the robbing fuck. If he goes through life like that he will end up with no friends.....unless of course he is actually incredibly funny and charming, something you have neglected to write.

Al the best

Shane

ha
Sadly, he's neither of those things.

Miserable and rude yes, "funny" and "charming" are not words you hear in the same sentence as this chap...unless they are prefixed with "not very".

ps. You can't be the same Shane, as this one can't read and write, so writing the letter in the first place would be a complete waste of time.

I hear your pain!
I think everybody has/had a mate like this; ours was a bloke called Dave. He was forever short changing the bill or not putting his share into the kitty, matters came to a head when he was asked to be another mate Paul's bestman. He basically overcharged everyone on the do, including the fucking groom, so he got a free flight, hotel and days shooting!! He's now a social leper, not invited to any weddings, parties etc. he was replaced as bestman and uninvited. Do yourself a favour and ditch the leeching twat, you'll be better off and everyone else will thank you.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:05, closed)
The fact
that he was the subject of everyone's conversation on the Saturday night - all with tales of extreme tightness/ripping offs - has pretty much sealed that deal.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 16:11, closed)
Fight fire with fire
Reminds me of an aquantance I had a few years back who acted like your nefarious Shane.
Solution? Prime all of the good guys next time and as soon as the bill arrives, everyone scarper, leaving the whole lot to the one who 'needs to learn'. No fuss, no debate, no calculations to the tenth decimal place.
Clean, effective and nipped in the bud.

Mates like this are like patches of mold in the bathroom
develop over time into a fucking pain that's hard to get rid of.

I feel for you. Had one of these myself a few years back. Got to a stage where I just had to tell him to "just FUCK OFF, you miserable shitbag," in a packed restaurant. He did fuck off. Didn't pay for his meal then though, mind...
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:07, closed)
these are the bastards who always have a pudding too....
utter cunts

been there, shagged that
ex-boyfriend who was as tight as a crab's arse. lived with me for 4 months, never gave me a penny, citing massive bills that had to be paid or he'd end up in prison. bollocks, he was saving up to go to leeds. i got rid of him the hard way - i lent him money.
haven't seen the fucker for 18 months.
