is by prising the lid off and putting a fucking great lump of brandy butter in it, and the pouring cream over the top. Without that, they are dull, dry, nasty little fuckers, I reckon.

and used to have a chocolate and cranberry cake in place of Christmas cake, before I confessed I didn't even want chocolate cake so my mother stoped making me one. It's all about savouries for me.
Cold roast potatoes dunked in bread sauce, gammon, a selection of mustards, fine cheeses....that's what I like about Christmas fare. Those and vintage port.

a decent homemade mince pie is a thing of gorgeous beauty, and christmas pudding, especially homemade pudding, is just wonderful.
