My favourite classical painter is Vermeer.
but my favourite painter is Roger Broders. He painted for the travel industry between 1922 - 1932. I have a thing for Art Deco and the style of the 20's & 30's, which is why I can watch "Jeeves & Wooster" again and again.

I liked the Art Deco stylings in Bioshock and Bioshock 2
Great atmosphere in those games.

Stunning games...and creepy
"Would you kindly..."
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 15:58, Reply)
Yes, that was done brilliantly
Their forthcoming game looks good too, Bioshock Infinite. Totally separate to the world of Rapture.

Was he the guy that did all the railway posters?
I liked those. Art nouveau and art deco FTW
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 15:56, Reply)
That's the one

(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 15:57, Reply)
then I approve of your choice
Every so often I decorate my kitchen cupboards with art postcards to cheer me up whilst I am in there. I've had Mucha, vintage adverts, and those travel posters. I should really clean my cupboard fronts and put something new up.
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:02, Reply)
I had them professionally framed
the posters were dirt cheap, the frames...not so
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:06, Reply)
art deco art is ok
I can't fucking stand most of the furniture though. particularly that mirrored stuff.
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:00, Reply)
I love the simple elegance of it
but saying that, I wouldn't decorate my house art deco. It's probably more suited to large 1920's hotels.
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:03, Reply)
I think it is more the choice of materials
the really shiny orange wood with all the grain showing just doesn't appeal. Or the horrible horrible mirrored stuff.
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:05, Reply)
my brother's house is 1920's
They had loads of lovely original furniture. Now they have 3 kids so it's all given way to plastic toys and shite

Actually now i remember their xmas present to me is an old photo of the inside of a theatre from the 1920's with the lovely old seats etc. It's stunning.

Damn kids
ruin everything
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:09, Reply)
with particular focus on sexlife, bank account and holidays
Choice of cars, social activities and.... Oh decor. Done!
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:15, Reply)
don't pretend you don't have it on your ceiling
Some of the buildings are awful, have you seen the hoover building (aka the tesco building) on the a40? It is the only grade one listed art deco building in the uk and... Well, i'd nuke it.
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:03, Reply)
I like the architecture
just not the furniture.

kind of weird, but there you go
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:05, Reply)
Aubrey Beardsley was fucking excellent.

(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:05, Reply)

Where I'm from was pretty art deco, in its own slummy way.
I see windows like our old ones on Poirot all the time.

I bloody love these
all the travel posters and booze adverts - I think it's Blousie that has an amazing absinthe one with a cat on it.
But they just woulnd't look right in my flat :(

A MAJOR INFLUENCE to many of today's shit whining woe-is-me wangst bands. Thus the wheel of faeces turns again.

(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:14, Reply)
You're so complex
a mystery wrapped in an enigma surrounded by one of those magic-eye pictures that kind of look 3D but make your eyes water...
(, Thu 20 Jan 2011, 16:20, Reply)
