Whilst I agree, in principle, with your point - taking anything on B3ta too seriously is a Bad Idea, as I've had pointed out to me in the past -
this is nonetheless a public forum and everyone who contributes to it is entitled to an opinion as to what constitutes acceptable behaviour. I don't personally understand why people treat any corner of the internet as a place to abuse and offend people, and nor do I understand why such behaviour can be passed off as "just silly internet banter" by others. of course he does. But there's a difference between "expressing an opinion" and "complaining that your opinion isn't the way things are done"

firstly, it's pointless, because it won't work and you'll come out of it looking like a fool. It's like walking into a lion's enclosure and trying to persuade them to vegetarian. Secondly, the majority, including those who set up and run the website, don't want it to work, because bile is part of b3ta's ethos. And thirdly, why on earth waste your time getting upset about something that isn't real?

The fact that it's a public forum is irrelevant. No-one makes people post here. There is a corner of the internet for everyone. If people don't like the abuse here, you're in the wrong corner. Accept that rather than pointlessly try and change that corner to make it the fluffy place you want.

by saying that there are limits, and unfortunately only an individual knows what the limits are. I've "done a humpty" a few times on /talk over the years but never to a troll, it's just provoking the response that the troll is after.

For instance, I come here much more than /talk now, not because I can't take the cuntiness, but because the discussions are better, IMO. And I thought you deserved a wanker like me.

the distinction between abuse and taking the piss depends on the recipient's sense of humour. This is an online site universally known for very borderline stuff. I'd argue 90% of the time if you're getting offended it's your sensitivity rather than the commenter's nastiness that is the problem. The other 10% is where the problem lies, but BranynDedd's trolling isn't anywhere near that.

Some of the abuse that was trolled at, say, Tourette's, in the past, is in the unacceptable 10% category and I happily said so, on talk, at the time. But there is an issue here - I'm not justifying cunty behaviour, but if you post on a public forum deeply personal information which would hurt you if used abusively, then while you don't deserve abuse you can hardly be surprised about it.

I think that it's a bit double-standard really. What Humpty is saying is a version of "you'd never say that kind of stuff to someone in a pub but it's somehow OK on the internet?" ... but the response is "you'd never stand up in a pub an announce you were abused as a child to strangers" either. You can't really have your own way on one and not the other.

But I do think that abuse is very different to piss taking and nothing to do with the recipient's sense of humour. It's to do with the abusers intention. Whether to poke fun, (even if close to the bone), or to make someone upset.
