Put in for voluntary redundancy
with absolutely no game plan whatsoever.
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:16, 3 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
Aye
That's a clever move during a recession.

It's a risk, I grant you.
But the terms are too good to pass up and I'll probably never get such a good chance again.
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:28, Reply)
So long as it's not a case
of never being able to get another job again.

That would be a sickener. I was very lucky only to be out of work for a couple of months last year. It's not good.

I say I have no game plan.
I will be taking a couple of months off, then actively look for something - I'm not fussed what, something in my current line of work would be good but I'd happily stack shelves for a bit; practically anything but go back to working in a Jobcentre.

If, after about six months nothing came up I'd consider starting a small business.

Oooo!
Your skills are quite transferable aren't they?
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:39, Reply)
Reasonably.
The only thing is my line of work is pretty dependant on public funding for grants, so...

Fair comment
although I can't help but smile at the irony of taking redundancy from a Jobcentre!
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:40, Reply)
I don't work in a Jobcentre anymore
which was my point - I used to and it was the most miserable experience of my life, hence why I wouldn't go back.
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:44, Reply)
Oh I see
Sorry. Makes sense now.

*deletes previous smile*

Doing any sort of job is for the best
When a good opportunity comes up recruiters won't take too kindly to anyone who says "I've spent six months sitting on my arse watching Jeremy Kyle."

Temporary clerical work can often lead to something better anyway if you prove yourself.
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:45, Reply)
I think if you're going to go
Now is the time, because this time next year the Job Centres will be bursting at the seams.

I know a couple of people who have picked up reasonable jobs recently.

Again
part of my reasoning is being only 40 (only???), I'm hopefully young enough to not be left on the scrap heap. Either way I've got a fair bit of breathing space as we should be able to live comfortably fo about 15 months once the debt is paid off.
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:39, Reply)
You're younger than I am
so I have to agree.
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:41, Reply)
When will you hear?

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:18, Reply)
Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
It all depends if they have permission to recruit into my post. They've already done the interviews; people who are going to be made redundant were eligible to apply and they've provisionally appointed people into the job(s).
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:26, Reply)
Also, did you get the map I sent?

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:29, Reply)
I'll laugh if it got lost en route.

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:30, Reply)
I did thanks.

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:36, Reply)
If you get it, will you still be at Blousie's bash?

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 19:45, Reply)
Why wouldn't he be?

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 20:01, Reply)
Not sure, having to be careful with money, and all that...?

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 20:18, Reply)
Nah, I'll have enough to live normally for a bit.

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 20:23, Reply)
Ahh, good good!

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 20:28, Reply)
Oh God yeah.
And Swipey's.
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 20:17, Reply)
I think I'm going to have to pull out of Blousie's, which I'm rather gutted about.

(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 20:18, Reply)
Pull out of Blousie's what?
Filthy beast.
(, Wed 16 Feb 2011, 20:19, Reply)
