I am coming to terms with the fact
that I actively like NIN. It's not right
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:29, Reply)
I can't get into them

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:31, Reply)
Have you tried being more charming and witty?

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:33, Reply)

charming and witty rohypnol

Why do people have to ruin a joke
by doing a strikethrough with basically the same punchline?
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:37, Reply)
it's funny because it annoys you

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:38, Reply)

's s you ing.

LOL
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:39, Reply)

This is zing of the day people
drink it in.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:42, Reply)
I had already clicked it

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:44, Reply)
But AA is still shit...
Am I being ordered off the internet?
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:48, Reply)
I'm not that bad!

Winding you up mate
Chuck on some Green Day and you'll feel better
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:19, Reply)
and you have definitely got better

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:22, Reply)
This
I've been to see them/him live, listened to the supposed best stuff, listened to the supposed not so good stuff. It just doesn't grip me.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:34, Reply)
It crept up on me, I had a similar 'not getting into them' thing
They just seeped into my consciousness until I find myself thinking "I might listen to a bit of NIN, today"
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:34, Reply)
that's how they get you
it's what happened to me
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:36, Reply)
They're not for everyone
Each album's quite different to the last, but all within an alt metal/industrial/synth genre of sorts.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:35, Reply)
which album(s) do you recommend for faster stuff with more of a rhythm
I like the odd stuff, but doesn't quite work for me all the time.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:37, Reply)
You say you have The Fragile?
All their albums (except Ghosts and arguably Pretty Hate Machine) have faster songs. I'd say With Teeth is their more accessible album, Broken has their hardest songs, and The Downward Spiral is probably their best. Year Zero is interesting, more computer/synth based, and has some great songs on.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:41, Reply)
I do indeed have the Fragile
I know Pretty Hate Machine well, but it is a little too electronic for my tastes (or for my 18 year old taste anyway, so I'll give it another go)

I'm working on getting the others. DLed the new one off the website the other day and am liking that.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:43, Reply)
The Slip is good
Feels a little thrown together as an album, not very cohesive, but it was released for free so I can't complain!
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:44, Reply)
I think it's the synth that I don't like...

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:40, Reply)
I don't mind synths
Though less a fan of '80s-sounding' synths, which PHM is full of, but somehow it still works on that album. Maybe give Broken or The Downward Spiral a listen?
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:46, Reply)
I think I need to turn off the shuffle and puit more effort in
I have Downward Spiral and With Teeth, so I'll lock myself in a cupbaord and lisetn to them until I like them god dmmit!
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:49, Reply)
TDS is a concept album, so should be listened to in order
With Teeth less so, but it's still made in an order that flows, if that doesn't sound too wanky.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:56, Reply)
not that wanky
Lateralus is made to be listened to after you have rearranged it in accordance with a Fibonacci spiral. Now that is wanky. But I love it.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:03, Reply)
I gave that a go
It does seem to flow rather well!
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:15, Reply)
I've never really gotten into them.
I think I listened to maybe two songs, not even that.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:33, Reply)
Fair enough
Massive fanboyism aside, he's a technical genius and very talented individual, but his music isn't going to appeal to everyone.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:37, Reply)
Good year

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:34, Reply)
But bad for comedy
Bill Hicks died.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:37, Reply)
pretty much the worst year for comedy ever then

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:38, Reply)
gonna display my age and admit I've never heard of him.

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:39, Reply)
you need to sort that out

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:39, Reply)
I love Bill Hicks
But most of the live shows I've seen repeat a lot from the previous shows. I think in Bill's case the fact that he burned out rather than fade away helped his fame. Much like Cobain, I still see 13 year old mini moshers wearing nirvana hoodies, I predict that if they were still making "music" today that no-one would give a fuck.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:42, Reply)
you are almost certainly right about that
in both cases
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:44, Reply)
YAY! Internet approval!
I shall be happy for the rest of the day.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:48, Reply)
True
I think he would have had a field day when Bush junior got elected though.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:47, Reply)
Three words spring to mind when I think of comedians mocking Bush Jr.
Shooting, Fish and Barrel
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:51, Reply)
Absolutely

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:52, Reply)
Three more: why, fucking and bother.

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:16, Reply)
Exactly, the person who mocked Bush Jr. the best
was Bush Jr.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:29, Reply)
Angry 80's comedian
Not for everyone, but hugely influential
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:40, Reply)
Some of his stuff is showing its age
Most is still very poignant today. He was very angry, rather sick at times, and as NakedApe says very influential.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:43, Reply)
Bill Hicks on abortion should be mandatory listening
For all people intent on restricting it unnecessarily:

I couldn't agree

Bill Hicks:
Intelligent, made excellent points, good ranter, admirable chap.

Just not actually funny.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:56, Reply)
his drugs rant is excellent
also, the bit about driving on acid. marvellous.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:02, Reply)
I agree - but the fellow simply doesn't make me laugh.
It's not even a criticism really, I just think he's been miscast as a comedian rather than a social commentator.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:03, Reply)
By the way are you EVER going to come to London?
I'm starting to think you're a Spanky sockpuppet.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:06, Reply)
you of all people should understand what it is to be skint dear boy
I commented yesterday that at the moment I can afford to get married or get my car fixed, but not both. This precludes other activities for me.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:17, Reply)
*narrows eyes*
No denial of the Hanky suggestion, I see.

Perhaps you've been to busy 'pumping your purple spunk-cannon' etc etc too much.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:20, Reply)
do you think I could suffer the crowd of brown-nosers who follow him around?
the fawning over him in the replies to his post this week made me quite nauseated.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 10:21, Reply)
That is an excellent selection
Except I think KoRn was '95
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 9:55, Reply)
Wiki says '94
Maybe UK release wasn't until '95?
