If I had such a technique I would employ it right now.
As per my post last week about seeing a shrink, I can 'snap myself out of a funk' all I like but the things that are doing my head in are still there, and 100% real. So in my case 'snapping myself out of a funk' really means 'distracting myself from the enormity of my problems temporarily' and is actually not in any way helpful.

OR: I like to think of famous events in which thousands died and have a little chuckling wank*.

Don't dismiss the distractions too readily. Obviously the problems doing your head in remains real, but if all you can do is worry about them then that could be just as dangerous as temporarily distracting yourself from them. Sure, being distracted won't solve them, but it may lift your spirits a little, whereas wallowing in how dreadful everything is may eventually send you mad, especially if you've got to wait for other things to happen before you can fix them. There's a time for action, but there's also a time to give your brain a little respite.
