people are always saying to me and the mrs that we'll change our minds about wanting kids.
they don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

People are always saying that to me, too.
They're always surprised by the vehemence of my counter argument.

It's expected that people my age will start having children. You just have to get used to it, I guess.

yeah
I'm expecting far more of it once I am married.

Part of my family is Catholic.
You can imagine the inquisitions I have to sit through.

+ about the choirboys

Catholic family I know has 7 kids in it
The oldest, was the favourite, he's now come out as gay...I think the parents hope he'll change his mind.

my mate's mrs is one of 12
she can't wait to start firing them out. I suspect her very convenient ME will disappear when that happens.
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:51, Reply)
True, some people never want them
But the simple fact is that women particularly are biologically prepossessed to have children, so whilst a girl in her twenties may say I NEVER want children it is quite possible that changes in her biology over the years will mean that she changes her "mind".

my mrs is approaching 30
and wants them less now than ever before. Her nieces are as pleasant and well-behaved as children get, and didn't give much in the way of sleepless nights and such and she still doesn't want them.

It won't happen to everyone, I certainly wasn't that keen on having one
but now when I listen to my wife's belly at night and the little bugger kicks me in the face I can't wait to meet him/her!
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:40, Reply)
awwww!
You soft cunt
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:40, Reply)
Ah man it's fucking incredible.
To be honest though, it only starts to get really, really good when they're about one.
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:41, Reply)
Yeah I know the little girl mentioned below is amazing
I've had the chance to watch her grow up and it's really changed my attitude
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:42, Reply)
and it's delightful when they turn 13
and go moody, secretive, hogging the bathroom and the phone and your cash and demanding designer clothes and haircuts and to have their friends round so they can eat you out of house and home and ignore you and get drunk and barf everywhere and eventually turn 18 and fuck off to university...

oh yeah, who wouldn't want that?!?!?

i'm being flippant, in case you didn't guess, to misquote homer simpson.

I do hope it turns out to be a nicer teenager than me

(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:46, Reply)
Not all teenage girls are spoilt little shits, you know.
My sister was lovely at that age.
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:46, Reply)
Bert?

(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:47, Reply)
Fuck off Bert.

(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:48, Reply)
I asked for that.

(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:51, Reply)
I appreciate that it would be rewarding in many ways
but I can't get over the thought that it might be fucking awful and I don't want to take the risk.
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:45, Reply)
Fair point
I suppose the difficulty is that you have limited time to decide. It's no good when your fifty thinking I wish I'd had kids as the time has passed.

ON the other hand you may see you friends bogged down with sprogs while you surf the world and enjoy yourself!
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:48, Reply)
I just can't see us being able to do it financially for a good while
and being fucking skint while going through it would put massively unnecessary strain on things. I'm happy enough with my reasons for not wanting them, but when I try and tell people I get concerned that they sound massively shallow and self-centred. I don't have a problem with being that way, but don't like other people realising it.
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:50, Reply)
I don't want children because I want to spend my money
on cars, toys and holidays. I'm shallow and I don't care if people know it.
(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:51, Reply)
haha

(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:52, Reply)
I'd just be a terrible parent.

(, Mon 28 Mar 2011, 11:49, Reply)
that too.
people say I'd be great. They clearly don't know me very well at all.
