On constant rotation on my space phone is 'Lonely Avenue' by Jimi Hendrix
I had never heard it before a month or so ago and I cannot stop playing it. It reminds me slightly of Scorpio by Dennis Coffey, it's funky as hell.

Also Headstone: The Contact Sessions disc from the 13th Floor Elevators box set. Demo/early versions of some classic songs of theirs, and some I'd never heard before inc one that sounds like Buddy Holly on strong drugs. Incredible stuff.

now that is a tune

It sure is. Almost as good as 'Rock Me Amadeus' or that one by Glen Medeiros.
Good old European music, it's always excellent.

have you listened to Bigelf yet?
half of them are Swedish

also, Focus are touring with Crazy World of Arthur Brown later in the year.

Arthur Brown is superb.
His first LP has no guitar on it - and you don't even notice. cf the United States of America's excellent sole LP. Focus I have little time for, I must confess.

just remembered
I was at mrs v's sister's wedding the other day. Met her aunt and uncle for the first time, and they accused me of dubious musical taste (for some reason) and then her uncle says "I'd have thought you'd be into surf music like Dick Dale" at which point apparently my face lit up and I blurted "Dick Dale is a fucking legend!"

I predict his death within 2011. Poor old sod.
Top five gigs ever, that was - properly 'awesome' not 'Chompy's lasagna' awesome.

I wouldn't be surprised
would love to see him, but doubt I'll get the chance now.

can't think what my top 5 gigs are. Top 3 are definitely Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation, Monster Magnet and Bigelf

I have heard two tracks by Bigelf
and I enjoyed them both a lot.

splendid
their albums all seem very good. Odd weaker track, but on the whole great stuff.

Superbly good live too.

Monty's being all old and lol.
Any bit of gadgetry that doesn't come in 12" vinyl and etched with grooves is automatically space age. His land line at home is two bean cans attached with string.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 16:52, Reply)
To dial a number you have to flick the bean cans.
They were a present from my mum. They smell a bit kippery but I like 'em anyway.

Is the reception a bit tinny?
