I am now thinking just folding some pesto into it might have been nice, I was I think hung up on a pasta dish requiring an actual sauce.

it's just as easy to make nice meals cheaply from nice stuff as from crap stuff.

I'm crap at both cooking and shopping. I stare at the fridge and it does not inspire me to make amazing things like you guys

chicken, beef, pork etc
decide what sauce you want:
Cream, tomato, wine etc
then google or use a recipe search. I use www.supercook.com - you can tell it what you got and it aggregates recipes from dozens of sites ordered by how many ingredients you already have. Then nip out and buy the rest and whip it up. I've got about a dozen one pan recipes that are great, I keep mushrooms and cream and leeks and onions in my fridge, and cartons of chopped tomatoes in my cupboard because I can always make stuff out of them.

My problem with meat is I forget I have it. It's easier to just make things from stuff that doesn't go off quick

or a couple of pork chops, and then do two chicken or pork recipes in a row. I know proper grown-ups plan their meals for the whole week, but I'm not quite there yet...
