For the simple reason that they give you loads of energy without the bad shit in energy drinks, they also help you recover faster. Whether or not they build muscle is out to the jury.

there have been studies which show that once you are over a certain level of protein, consuming more has no effect at all. And that level of protein is less than the amount you would get in a piece of chicken or fish.
So all that Whey Protein that people buy is a massive waste of money.

if you have been working out, drink some water with a bit of squash in it, maybe add a bit of salt if you are really working hard.
But you probably get more than enough salt from everyday foods.

when I had some, it did give me a decent energy boost and i would be less stiff the next day allowing be back to the gym, GGRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
