What makes a great TV show
As I hang out with the stars I know a number of people who work in telivision. Most of them make crap.

What makes a good show of any genre?

Alt: What's good on TV at the moment, I watched Luther last night, excellent stuff.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:09, 113 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
Same things as make a good film
Tits, guns and a car chase.

Game of Thrones is AWESOME
I recommend this, it has fighting and dark humour and lots of boobs. Lots and lots of boobs.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:12, Reply)
Agreed.
The boobs are good.

Camelot on the other hand is a pile of shit.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:13, Reply)
Thirded,
although I'm not hating camelot, Eva Green is great in it.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:15, Reply)
Her breasts alone
were worth sitting through the first episode.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:17, Reply)
I think I'll probably end up watching Camelot

Casting Sean Bean was such a spoiler.

(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:13, Reply)
At least they played to his strengths
By casting him as a Northerner.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:15, Reply)
I saw him in Hamlet on the West End a few years back.
It was a pretty good adaptation but, silly me, I could have *sworn* Hamlet was supposed to be Danish.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:16, Reply)
Yeah
He's got such a wide character range. Gondorian warrior, King of Ithica, rogue spy, rifleman... all in a Yorkshire accent, naturally.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:18, Reply)
What's he supposed to do, shout out "Hektor, do you want that with chilli sauce?"

(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:29, Reply)
Maybe take elocution lessons?

(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:31, Reply)

(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:12, Reply)
A good plot
where you cannot see what is coming up. Formulaic TV is fucking tedious
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:13, Reply)
House is good even though it's the most Formulaic I've ever seen.

(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:15, Reply)
Very much this.

(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:15, Reply)
I caught half an episode of Luther the other day, think I might have to download that.
I'm enjoying a few series at the moment with HIMYM, Chuck, Castle, Bones & Dr Who being my favourites.

Also, if it's a case of Good vs Evil, make the evil person seriously fucking evil, or it's just not worth it.

EDIT: Has anyone watched Boardwalk Empire? Is it really as good as they're claiming it to be?
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:13, Reply)
Dr Who is awesome.
It isn't to everyone's taste, but then, what is?

Besides, I would die happy if I were to have a threesome with Karen Gillan and Alex Kingston.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:15, Reply)
No.
I watched the first 5 or 6. Just dull. It's not helped by 4 ad breaks that are 4 minutes long.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:22, Reply)
downloads = no ad breaks

(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:26, Reply)
It may just hold your attention then.
It's generally slow moving.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:29, Reply)
I probably won't watch it.
I still have Breaking Bad and Californication to watch before I start looking for new stuff
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:31, Reply)

Interesting characters and plots with the ability to surprise you
Ones that aren't afraid to go off in new directions an shake things up a bit rather than hitting the reset button every week.

Alt: I'm enjoying the second series of Justified at the moment.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:16, Reply)
I don't watch much TV but I do have it on most times for background noise.

Seriously though
The best programme I've seen recently is Caprica. The best programme I've ever seen is Battlestar Galactica. The programme I'm most looking forward to is Blood & Chrome. They should have Cylons on Newsnight, that'd liven it right up.
(, Thu 16 Jun 2011, 11:26, Reply)
That'd be awesome.
Jeremy Paxman could set them on annoying politicians.

BY YOUR COMMAND
