Anyone live by a motto or code? if so what is it and why?
alt: anyone scared of flying?
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:29, 67 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
Don't be a cunt
Most of the time it works, but not always

Alt:
My step-daughter is fucking petrified of flying. Proper hyper-ventilating, crying hysteria afraid
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:31, Reply)
Being a cunt can make life a lot simpler though.
alt - how do you deal with it?
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:33, Reply)
This is true
My way of thinking is that it might be harder not to be one, but in the long term it works out better.

Alt:
We can't do anything and she still flies. She is 22 mind, so old enough to worry about things herself
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:34, Reply)
22! I thought you were in your thirties!
I tried being nice but it's hard bloody work.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:36, Reply)
I am 36!
Mrs Cow had her when she was 17, long before we met

You don't have to be nice, just not a cunt. Silence is a good thing in most problems. Shut your own gob and walk away. This sorts most stuff out in work for me
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:37, Reply)
You are my new guru

(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:42, Reply)
Shit Happens
Alt: I wouldn't say I was scared of flying, but I am a nervous flyer.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:32, Reply)
Better out than in
I try not to bottle stuff up as it just makes things worse. Go and shout in an empty room if necessary, chills you out again
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:35, Reply)
I used to be a right knob, and would punch things when I got wound up
However, 2 occurences of this happening stopped me from doing it anymore.

The first one was when I punched a stone lamppost, and broke my knuckle (fucking AGONY). The second was when I put my fist through a door, ripping the skin apart.

Both times, I realised it simply wasn't worth it.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:39, Reply)
Have done the same so many times, although my mate Russ wins this,
got so angry playing football punched the floor and broke both hands... Oh the piss taking was immense.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:53, Reply)
Haha, that's spectacular

(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:58, Reply)
A man gotta have a code.

(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:33, Reply)
That bottle won't drink itself

(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:38, Reply)
It must do sometimes
Because I'd often just wake up and find it empty.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:40, Reply)
Two real codes I have, one by necessity, one by choice.
One day at a time.

Yes, and...
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:39, Reply)
Not scared of flying but as a control freak I would rather be flying it than be a passenger.

(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:43, Reply)
I don't think anyone else on board would agree

(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 17:03, Reply)
I would
I don't like rollercoasters for this reason.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 17:04, Reply)
Be nice
and try not to worry about things, particularly if you can't change them.

No. I love flying. I fucking hate boats though.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:43, Reply)
Do you have a problem?
No? Then don't worry.

Yes? Can you do anything to change it?

Yes? Then don't worry.

No? Then don't worry.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:46, Reply)
Indeed
a highly logical thought process.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:48, Reply)
It takes more practice than it feels like it should
but it just about works.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:49, Reply)
It's doable if you work at it
or at least, it stops me from careering headlong in to panic from time to time.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 17:00, Reply)
Oooh I love a good ferry me.

(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:51, Reply)
Bleurgh
Catamarans are the worst. I only have to look at one to start feeling ill. I chunder without fail every single time I get on any ferry, boat, catamaran...I could probably manage it in a pedalo, ffs.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:52, Reply)
I've sailed since I was a nipper so love the sea.
I do not like coaches though as was on one in France which crashed halfway up the fucking Alps.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:53, Reply)
I don't like coaches either
trains and planes are just about passable.
(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 16:56, Reply)

Not scared of flying at all. I find it quite pleasant.
Do what you want but don't hurt anyone is as close to a motto as I can get those.

PS bonus points for those who can figure out where that came from.

In 100 years who's going to give a shit
This one comes in handy if I'm stressing about something that seems important at the time.

Alt: Nope, I have an irrational fear of going beyond the third step in a stepladder (ITS FECKIN' WOBBLY!) but have no problem sitting in a flying sardine can contemplating spending £5 on a bag of crisps.

(, Mon 10 Oct 2011, 17:57, Reply)
A student today said they'd found a quote that reminded them of me
it was

"Listen to the voice inside that says 'wouldn't it be interesting if...' then act on it"

I was pretty chuffed
