B4SH?
In an IRL conversation with several OT window-lickers last night the subject of a pre-Christmas* gathering in London was raised.

Who’d be up for it? Possible dates are Friday 9th, Saturday 10th, Friday 16th or Saturday 17th.

Start in a pub (possibly Mabel’s Tavern as that has worked well in the past) and then maybe get some solids somewhere.

If we can get a date agreed I will put something on the calendar.

*Christmas is shit.

It's a shame I missed everyone last night
it would have been really nice to see them, but I was busy having dinner and fun and missing my train and stuff.
Of all of those dates I can only potentially do 10th, the rest are out for me.

CHRISTMAS IS NOT SHIT!
CHRISTMAS IS AWESOME!
WHOOOOO! CHRISTMAS!
Jingle bells! Batman smells! Robin laid an egg!
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 9:17, Reply)
christmas is a time
for raising expectations then having them dashed in a day of awkward conversations, almost-arguments and never ending TV
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 9:50, Reply)
Who the hell can you have awkward conversations with on Christmas?
It's just friends and family, even for someone like me who hates socialising I love it. Except when I used to go to the ex's on Boxing Day, that was always fucking horrifically awkward.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 10:08, Reply)
its the family bit
it's OK for the first day or so I visit, but there are only so many stories about people I don't know and things me mum wants to buy that i can listen to

Spending it in Boston this year.
The only way I have been able to avoid my wife's parents this year is by suggesting we go to the US to stay with her sister - who I get on with.

As I am not in contact with my parents & sister I find being around lots of my wife's family too much at times. I can cope with my sister-in-law and her husband ok.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 10:14, Reply)
i knowwhat you mean
my ex's family were a bit intense and numerous. Familes should be kept at a distance.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 10:16, Reply)
I suppose being away from my family for three months before Christmas helps.
But I love everyone being together drinking Baileys whilst we watch my cousins batter each other with their new lightsabres/guns/remote control cars.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 10:17, Reply)
well I could certainly do with some fun, soon.
make it a saturday and I will do my best to get there. Especially if someone has crash-space, too.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 9:45, Reply)
although i've just realised
it might be about them I'm moving house. I guess it all depends if I can find my driving license
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 9:51, Reply)
Oh me too, I might have a new flat filled with loads of lovely thing that'll be all mine.
I'll have a black and silver deco bedroom with sparkly silver walls and a black chandiler like light fitting and black walldrobes and an almost gothic style mirror and one of the spare chairs from the dinning room table that is chrome and black leather, and I saw some wall decorations made out of metal that look wicked, like silioettes of birds or gemoetric sculuptures that I'm gonna hang up on the wall and then buy a cheap flamboit frame that i'll paint black, so it looks like the birds are flying out of the frame, it'll look AMAZING. It'll be a proper bu'dwah', everyone who goes in there who is female and unrelated to me will be like "This is a true bu'dwar, I can see me having sex in here, with you. It would be like fucking in the meatloaf video, the one where he's a monster but gets the chick.".

And then in the living room, i've got my lovely amazing sofa which is like being hugged by your childhood teddy bear after it's been kept on the radiator afte being washed. And then there is the entertainment unit which I haven't decided on yet but it'll hide all my wires and stuff like that, and a shelving unit I can put framed photos of family/friends, and little ornimatnts and candles too. I'm going for coffee'n'creams in here, it'll be really relaxing. They'll also be a dinning area with a beutiful glass table with chrome and black highlights. And maybe I'll get some art to put on the wall, but I'd rather print off some of my fave photos to canvas. When I bring girls back there who aren't family they'll be all like "This is a lovely homely room, I really feel relaxed in here, I can deffo see myself having sex with you on the floor and up against the wall".

And then there is the kitchen, which we'll do up in january with the sales, with an awesome new oven with a hotpate and I found a fridge that has a cold water pooror thing. I'm not sure how I'm going to decorate this one at all, but the units appart from the fridge will be intrigated so I won't be able to sit on the washing machine and put it on spin cycle. I'll have lots and lots of surfice space to make pasta and I'll have new plates and new cutlery and new everything else, and a magnet on the wall for my new knives and I'll be able to hang my utnicels up and I'll be growing some herbs on the window shels and i'll have a spice rack haning on the wall. When I show girls who aren't related to me in there I'll be like "Daaaayum bitch, chill, it's to unhygeenic in here, I'll get the nutella out and we can go into the bathroom".

Then there is a spare room which will be an office and laundry room, and the bathroom is staying the same I think.

buying houses is COOL!
I'm gonig to turn one of my rooms into a darkroom and artist studio. gonna replace the carpet with lino and get a sink in there. Then there's a dining room which will be all mismatched and cosy and warm and full of books and things.

I suppose I better think about how the bedroom is going to attract the boys. I was originally thinking of dinosaur curtains and blue walls with planets on. Men like that kind of shit, right? I know i do. Oh and there's this paint you can get which is sparkly, reckon I'll get me some of that.

and I will have a shed *glees*
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 10:22, Reply)
0o0o0oh, I wonder if I can turn the spare room into a potential dark room? That would be awesome.
Not the kind of men you want anything to do with, they're normally the kind of men who would prefer to see you in your school uniform, one that still fits.

Think to yourself what you can see yourself calling a 'home' rather than 'a place where all my things are'.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 10:49, Reply)
darkrooms are cool
you'll need running water and as few windows as possible (blacking out the room is the hardest bit - you need to stop light getting in under the doors, too)
btw it will smell.

it's pretty crazy thinking about having a home rather than a temporary storage area. Pretty much always assumed everywhere I was wasn't going to be for all that long. I just realised that when I moved in here I kept loads of boxes to make it easier when I moved out
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:20, Reply)
Hmmm, probably not practical in my place, but it _would_ be so god damn cool.
My bathroom doesn't connect to outdoors at all, so I guess I could use that.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:49, Reply)
that's a fairly common way of doing iy
get a big bit of mdf for over the bath to put the chemical trays on. Find a surface for your enlarger. job done
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:40, Reply)
It's possible I suppose.
I know nothing of Mabel's Tavern though, where abouts is it?
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 10:52, Reply)
5 min walk from Euston & a 5 min walk from Kings Cross
Has worked well as a venue for bashes in the past.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 10:56, Reply)
Sky Sports and a quiz machine?

(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:03, Reply)
Yep.

(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:13, Reply)
It suddenly becomes tempting....

(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:14, Reply)
Assuming City aren't at home on the day you arrange it for.
I'm fairly sure they are away on the 10th, so I'd go for the 10th.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:48, Reply)
Nah the week later, I'm back home then.
Fuck football it's rubbish.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:05, Reply)
The curse of having a season ticket.
You feel obliged to go, even if it is shit.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:08, Reply)
And looking at the fixture list.
The week after, the 17th, City are home to Florist so I'll go to that. Also, the 17th is just too close to Crimbo for my liking.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:11, Reply)
When I had a season ticket it was a reason not to go.
Although to be fair I was "thirteen" for about six years and got it for less than a hundred and fifty quid so didn't really give a toss.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:15, Reply)
I think mine is about £470 a season.
It really is an expensive excuse to go to the pub on a Saturday.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:17, Reply)
That's mental prices.
Ours are cheaper.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 13:30, Reply)
That's because
You've got Diddy David Hamilton reading the half time scores. If it wasn't for him, tickets would be more expensive.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 13:56, Reply)
Oh christ, this friday's episode of hollyoaks with the camera and london is the worst thing that hollyoaks has ever done.

(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:02, Reply)
I don't really know what I'm doing in December, yet
Apart from that I'm in Windsor on the 9th, so that would be no good.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:04, Reply)
I'd love to do something like this.
Sadly I live in another country.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:32, Reply)
ooh, I know Mabel's well. Used to be the works pub when I was based on Tavistock Square.
I may show my face until the beer starts to flow too freely actually.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 11:56, Reply)
Fridays are better than Saturdays
the last train is after the pub shuts on a Friday, but before 10 on a Saturday. Makes it a whole lot cheaper for me.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:26, Reply)
Christmas is interesting!

I have had the Victoria Square Cafe Special Breakfast - 2 sausage, 2 bacon, 2 fried eggs*, beans, black pudding, mushrooms, hash brown, toast, bread and butter and a mug of tea.

If I can keep it down another 10 minutes or so I should have my hangover on the ropes.

*extra egg because I didn't want tomatoes
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:33, Reply)
I can maybe do 9th or 10th, deffo not the others
I could also do crash space if I go, if people are willing to brave New Cross.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:36, Reply)
I'm changing my icon 'cus I always read your posts and then wonder why I've written that.

Santacon is on the 10th and I'm hoping to get up to London for it.
So my vote would be for the 10th
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:40, Reply)
i think the real question
will there be dancing and stuff? gotta be worth my while to go to the big scary city!
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 12:48, Reply)
I'm sure Gonz will take you dancing.

(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 13:14, Reply)
Labs, Al, Lusty, Gonz, Mellicious, Kaol, Wookiee and I are all busy on 10th.

Back in the day, members of all boards used to turn up to the day-or-two -before-Christmas one that's on the calendar now.
I know you lot hate us, but we used to be able to stop the boards getting too inbred for another year.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 20:37, Reply)
Might be able to make the 9th.
Am spending the 10th in a hotel room with my catfaced husband on the 10th for our anniversary. I fully intend to sleep all night long.
