Why is it that the main motorway link from London to Scotland
goes to Glasgow instead of Edinburgh?
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:14, 4 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
its nearer and a bigger industrial centre

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:14, Reply)
But I'm going to Edinburgh.
This is all very inconvenient.
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:16, Reply)
go by boat

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:20, Reply)
I don't have one :(

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:23, Reply)
hire one, it'll be cheaper than petrol

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:32, Reply)
Lobby groups have been campaigning for over 20 years
to have the A1 upgraded between Newcastle and Scotland to dual carriageway, to no avail.
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:19, Reply)
Too right.
The jocks should pay to widen the road.

It will then be easier for them to get to London and work whilst telling us how great Scotland is.

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:29, Reply)
contrary to folk music there is not only a high or low road leading into Scotland.

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:19, Reply)
No, there's the M6 and the A1
But the motorway goes to the wrong place. Kindly fix it.

Regards,

Your natural overlords.

M6 to Carlisle
After that it's Scotland and omg nobody cares what it's called, it's Scotland.
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:25, Reply)
That bit of the M6 from the A69 down towards Penrith etc is a nice drive

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:27, Reply)
Some MP the other week
reckoned it was still quicker to get to Edinburgh via the M6 and then cutting across, rather than up the A1. This was part of the justification for not upgrading the A1.
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:24, Reply)
That's the way I'll be going.
But do they not realise that this means I'm going to have to drive dangerously close to Birmingham?
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:25, Reply)
Probably right
Depends where exactly you're coming from. M6/M74/A725/M8 is probably your best bet, unless you're coming from NE Englandshire.
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:27, Reply)
In which case the military road is better anyway

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:30, Reply)

If you're going to affect a ridiculous regional accent, kindly do it correctly.
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:28, Reply)
Nope, that wouldn't sound right.
Please listen properly to more Scots.

I will accept "AEnglish" at a push.
Even though the ash character is anglo-saxon.
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:30, Reply)
Well no, cause I've never heard any accent up here that would start English with an A.
Sorry, no offence like.

To try to ensure that all you soft southern woofters end up over *there* rather than over *here*.

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:25, Reply)
I think you'll find it's so that all you people
find it easier to leave Scotland to find decent work. Since everyone in Edinburgh works in the tourist industry servicing their colonial oppressors, they don't need to leave.

Oh hey, I've just answered my own question!
(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 15:27, Reply)
Could I interest you in a tartan dolly in a plastic tube sir?

(, Tue 28 Feb 2012, 16:10, Reply)
I'll take a tin of that shortbread as well please.
Yes, that's the one. The one in the tartan tin.
