I was questioning the assertion that anyone in this country lives in third world conditions
It may technically be true that our worst off do as badly as their best off or some such, but nobody is starving in the streets.

The reason we send them aid is that they are worse off than us, suggesting otherwise is wilful stupidity.Yes there are probably other reasons and I'd not rule out ex-colonial guilt as one of them, but as a general rule that's the reason.

There is an intelligent discussion to be had about the form of this aid or even if it should be sent at all, but I put it to you that a thread started with a regurgitated Daily Mail headline is not the place that it will be happening.
