If your industry consists of selling stuff
which no-one is buying any more because they've beeen getting it free, you are in trouble.

Conversely, Chompy's problem is the other way around.
His industry has been providing its services for free, but some people think it will ultimately have to be paid for.

You are floundering
because you like to think of yourself as right-on and moral but the fact of the matter is you've nicked* stuff which you should have paid thousands of pounds for, you know it's wrong and no amount of Taylor Swift albums will assuage the underlying unease you feel about being dishonest, repeatedly and over a long period of time.

*whatever name you choose to give it. How about Nigel? You've Nigelled it all, OK?

I don't torrent music by the way, I had a pro spotify account.
Before that I had the paid for napster, before that I nicked my housemates CD's at uni.
Now I just use youtube if I really want to listen to something or listen to the radio.
(, Wed 3 Oct 2012, 15:40, Reply)
Just games and films then?

(, Wed 3 Oct 2012, 15:50, Reply)
TV shows mainly.
I don't torrent games because I use Steam. Here's an interview with the guy who runs steam about piracy. www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-28-valve-piracy-a-non-issue-for-steam

Here's a link about how ABC has reduced piracy on TV shows

This is the sort of thing that stops piracy, make what you sell better than what the pirates offer and bingo.
Waaahhing about the terrible theft won't stop anything.
(, Wed 3 Oct 2012, 16:02, Reply)
This is so true
I love steam, I've bought loads of games through it.
(, Wed 3 Oct 2012, 16:03, Reply)
Monty, calm down, no-one here has argued that dowloading stuff via torrents and not paying for it is morally correct in any way
all we've done is consistantly pointed out that what it most certainly is not, is theft. It just isn't. It doesn't matter how annoyed you get or how many friends you know in the music industry, downloading copies of music from the internet is not theft.

It may be wrong, it may be right, it may not be a love song (/music reference).
(, Wed 3 Oct 2012, 15:41, Reply)
I hope you're going to pay for that reference.

(, Wed 3 Oct 2012, 15:42, Reply)
I got it off the internet, you don't have to pay for things on the internet.

(, Wed 3 Oct 2012, 15:43, Reply)
That's alright then.

(, Wed 3 Oct 2012, 15:49, Reply)
Except that studies have demonstrated that people who download music and movies
actually tend to pay for more music and movies as well. The real problem is them sinking millions into shit that only retards would listen to/watch.
