Israel
Are using disproportionate force as always, and probably white phosphorus as well.

But hey, god said they could have Gaza.

And if Ireland shot dozens of missiles into Northern Ireland every day we'd just accept it?

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:25, Reply)
no, but likely we'd hit specific targets
Not carpet bomb it.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:28, Reply)
Israel have been aiming for specific targets.
The issue is that these targets tend to contain lots of innocent civilians.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:29, Reply)
They've been pretty good considering they've done several hundred bombings and have less than 100 civilian deaths.
/last time I checked.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:30, Reply)
If you reduce things down to statistics, then yes.
But I wouldn't class 90 odd civilian deaths as 'pretty good'
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:36, Reply)
especially not when you consider
How advanced Israel's weaponry is compared to the Palestinians. It's like hitting back against peashooters with an Uzi.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:40, Reply)
Peashooters with a 30mile range and packed with sophisticated high explosives.
It's really a stupid argument to say the weaponry is not as advanced so it can't do any damage.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:42, Reply)
I'm not saying that.
But yeah, the analogy was bad. What I meant is that Israel are using disproportionate force, just as they did last time around. Plus, credible reports of white phosphorus being used, which is, as I understand it, prohibited.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:47, Reply)
Here's a list of all rocket and mortar attacks this year
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Palestinian_rocket_attacks_on_Israel,_2012
I don't think that Israel have much of a moral dilemma in shooting at the people organising and funding this sort of prolonged campaign.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:51, Reply)
'Dilemma' would imply two choices.
And we all know how trigger happy they are. I think trilemma is more apt- negotiation, surgical strikes or carpet bombing military and civilian targets.

Wonder which one they'll choose?
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:56, Reply)
It's well below their target.

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:40, Reply)
Isreal hve beeen hittting specific targets
They specifically target a Hamas leaders house, unfortunatly there were dozens of other people, including women amd children that were in the house at the time.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:29, Reply)
Human shields, classy.

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:30, Reply)
I don't think families living with you in your house
Counts as human shields, soz.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:34, Reply)
^what I was gonna say^

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:35, Reply)
not again!

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:37, Reply)
I shall have to start calling you 'broseph'
or, y'know, stabbing myself in the throat.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:39, Reply)
If only the two sides in this conflict could learn something from you two.

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:42, Reply)
Israel really ought to have checked with them
to see when everybody except the guy they wanted was out. Perhaps by knocking and making an appointment.

Manners are sorely lacking these days.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:39, Reply)
yeah that, or send in Mossad agents or sutin
Or maybe enter into a peace agreement based on withdrawal from the Occupied Territories?

Who knows?
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:42, Reply)
Maybe they have. I haven't seen PJM around in ages.

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:45, Reply)
From what is currently reported. A seniour hammas militant was hiding out at the house
It wasn't his house.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:43, Reply)
Fucking cheat.
How are you supposed to have a good war if people keep cheating?
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:46, Reply)
There are options other than just accepting it and massive over-reaction.
Exercising one of them is why we don't currently have the problems in Northern Ireland that we used to.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:29, Reply)
agreeing with CQ here

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:30, Reply)
Sad times.
But also proof of rightness. if we agree on anything it must be true.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:32, Reply)
I have a moustache at the moment too
Sad times :'(
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:36, Reply)

However if you wan to feel superior I do have a bright orange mohawk.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:38, Reply)
a bright orange mohawk?
Fucking hell CQ, and how old are you?
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:41, Reply)
37.5

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:41, Reply)
Well done K
Spot on.
(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:43, Reply)
Yup, although northern island didn't want England to not exist.

(, Mon 19 Nov 2012, 12:39, Reply)
If you get too far into any analogy it breaks down
and I didn't bring up NI. I think my point that negotiation can bring peace when continued retaliation just keeps hostilities going still holds though.

this is a pragmatic point rather than an ideological one BTW.
