Proinsias Cassidy
Alt: Adrian Veidt
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:36, 2 replies, latest was 13 years ago)
i don't know who these are
more details please
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:42, Reply)
Veidt's alterego is Ozymandias
from out of Watchmen. Basically I want to be really clever and massively rich but also a bit evil and therefore not have to bother helping people and putting myself in mortal danger like those Stark and Wayne idiots.

Cassidy is a character from Garth Ennis' series of graphic novels, Preacher. If you haven't read them I recommend you correct this glaring oversight.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:44, Reply)
i have been told I should read Preacher many times
I've only read a few comics/graphic novels.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:45, Reply)
With the obvious exception of Watchmen
Preacher is the best standalone (ie you don't have to verse yourself in swathes of backstory) comic I've read. It's hilarious and massively compelling. READ IT READ IT NOW

perhaps i shall after I've finished dying of plague

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:49, Reply)
I would advise you to get on the Song of Ice and Fire series immediately thereafter
but am willing to bet you're way ahead of me there
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:59, Reply)
yeah
read them as they came out, although I have a vague plan to reread before I read the latest one, since I think I read the first about 1999. Still not seen the series
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:03, Reply)
Show off ;-)
Am only about 150 pages into A Storm of Swords; Steel and Snow. Hoping the sixth one might be out before I'm caught up. Have seen three episodes of the series, it's excellent, but by necessity it feels a bit rushed because they couldn't possibly capture that level of detail.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:08, Reply)
in which case you are not far off the
"OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo!" moment. As each of us read that, you'd see them mope around the kitchen, comforted by those who had read before.

no more spoilers, bt brace yourself
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:11, Reply)
Is it a bigger shock than the first book's "OMLG they did NOT just do that!" moment?
You know, towards the end?
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:15, Reply)
worse

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:17, Reply)
Not Tyrion
Tell me it's not Tyrion. He's fucking brilliant.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:19, Reply)
no spoilers

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:32, Reply)
JOFFREY YOU CUNT!

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:18, Reply)
I tell you what, as soon as I saw a picture of the cast for the TV programme
I pointed at the lad who plays Joffrey and said "He must be Joffrey. He looks like a contemptible little shite". Excellent casting, that.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:20, Reply)
The sixth one won't be out for a good ten years, judging by his past performance.
In fact, he's getting on a bit, he'll probably die before he finishes it.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:16, Reply)
That would be a bit shit
We'll get a half-arsed conclusion to the series by Christopher Tolkien or someone
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:17, Reply)
there was 5 years each between the last 3 books.
And in Dreamsongs he admits to starting and not finishing loads of series'. Having said that, Feast for Crows wasn't as good as the early books, so maybe he just needs ot leave it be... :(
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:19, Reply)
'Graph Novs' eh? How dark are they?

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:47, Reply)
Preacher's not dark per se because, despite all the gratuitous violence and sexual depravity,
it's too funny to be properly dark. Spectacularly blasphemous though.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:50, Reply)
blasphemous comics?
Whatever next!
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:51, Reply)
I hear that The Dandy is quite good.

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:53, Reply)
I dunno, I haven't read a comic since I was 14 or so.
It was Batman Vs Judge Dredd.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:54, Reply)
wow
you must be a much better person
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:55, Reply)
what, because I don't read comics?
Yes, I suppose I am.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:57, Reply)
yes, dear.

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:58, Reply)
Bollocks.
The Beano is way better.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:56, Reply)
this is true (or at least it was in the 80s)

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:59, Reply)
Damn straight
Unlike me, LOLOLOLOLOL
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:03, Reply)
Fucks sake, just admit it's a comic, it's okay to read comics if you like that sort fo thing, but don't pretend it's somethingmore than it is.

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:52, Reply)
in agreement with Al here

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:53, Reply)
why do people care so much
that other people like something you don't?
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:54, Reply)
I don't dislike comics
I've spent the last two days reading about 30 issues of the walking dead comic. But it's a comic, calling it a Graphic Novel is just utter tosh.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:56, Reply)
Right, so, your problem is not the subject matter itself or the reading thereof
but rather the fact that some people call them one thing and you call them another?
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:57, Reply)
He also says 'potarto'
I suggest that you call the whole thing off.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:57, Reply)
Take some points
for the first, and most likely only, Fred & Ginger reference to be made on OT today.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:02, Reply)
it's just words
I consider 'comic' to be when they are in installments, 'graphic novel' for when they are all in one compendium. But really, I don't give a fuck and like to call science fiction 'sci-fi' to annoy people
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:58, Reply)
Novels they aren't.

(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:59, Reply)
He's not saying that.
Just asking that comics are referred to as comics. They aren't novels.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 12:56, Reply)
No, they're GRAPHIC novels
The clue is in the word "graphic", which you don't see associated with novels, unless they're graphic novels.

HTH.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:00, Reply)
No, they are comics.
Utilising a pictorial style rather than a prose one.

HTH xx

Not to mention that you lose the structure and depth of the prose form.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2013, 13:03, Reply)
