Hardcore gaming question...
What do you gamers think about the new SimCity. I want it... but then I'll be saying it's ok for EA to fuck things up so much with their always on DRM. can't be arsed to pirate it... I don't know what to do...

well dull.
buy something fun.

I like simcity, it appeals to the Aspergers in me.

If this actually worries you enough that you don't know the solution
then the solution is inevitably to kill yourself.

It's an interesting dilemma that goes outside of just Hardcore gaming.
EA has made it so that you can only play the £45 game if you connect to it's servers, it also didn't make enough servers. So for the first three days after buying the game most people couldn't use what they bought.
This sort of buisness practice shouldn't be encouraged... but I wanna play it.

It's people like you and me that're letting corporations get away with shit like that.
On the one hand that whole "you don't get to keep what you have bought unless we can watch you" thing is well shit. On the other hand, it's a new SimCity game :(((((
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:07, Reply)
If I could be bothered with all the shit involved in repacking etc
I'd pirate it. I pirated spore due to that.

Maybe I should just ignore everything sim city related and forget about it for a month or so.

No subways in this one.
Bendy roads, though.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:12, Reply)
I quite want to have 16 little cities in an area all specialised in different things.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:14, Reply)
Subways will be paid for DRM within a month.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:19, Reply)
I really dislike DRM. Fine, if it's expansions or whatever.
But it usually isn't. It's usually stuff that should been in the game on fucking release.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:22, Reply)
Or is in the game, but they deliberatly block it.
The amount of DRM that is already on the disk is ridiculous.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:24, Reply)
So you can't play the game offline at all?
This is why I stopped playing computer games entirely years ago.

that, and actually interacting with real human beings is much, much better use of the pathetically short time we all have on this planet, but meh.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:11, Reply)
Nope, and if EA decide to turn off the servers in 2/5/8 years time
you'll never be able to play it again. It's a right cunt.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:13, Reply)
You should just get it.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:00, Reply)

it fucked, you snivelling little shit
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:05, Reply)
I bought it last night. Seems alright.
Not sure it's better than 4, mind.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:01, Reply)
I never played 4 to be honest.
So I might just get that on Steam, if I can fucking get steam working.

Did you have any access problems with it?
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:02, Reply)
4 keeps crashing out on Win7.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:04, Reply)
All maxis games crash.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:19, Reply)
Never happened to me before *shrug*

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:24, Reply)
I'm still playing the last one.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:02, Reply)
I have a controversial opinion about this,
in fact I think it's too controversial to post here. Kids read this site, you know.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:04, Reply)
It's all about piracy as well...

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:05, Reply)
It's about enforcing a licensing model
in which you no longer own anything, you just pay for a license to use it, which can be withdrawn at any time without your agreement or control.
See also Amazon (Kindle), Microsoft, Apple, etc.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:14, Reply)
It's an outmoded business model /ac

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:15, Reply)
Would you like to buy vinyl, that you could only access through the internet
from Sony vaults where they have a number of record players. You can listen to the music, but only when the record players are working and only as long as Sony decide to keep them playing that record.

That's basically the same thing. It's a fuck the customer attitude.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:18, Reply)
No sir I would not.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:26, Reply)
I'm pretty sure I can use my Kindle and most Apple things I own
regardless of what they are connected to, though. I see what you mean, but there's no removal of actual functionality for being offline in those cases.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 10:17, Reply)
No, but if Amazon suspect any irregularity in your account
they wipe your Kindle next time it connects and don't ask why.
