It's posturing yes.
but posturing happens before every war. It might come to nothing but there's nothing to say that the North don't believe what they're saying.

THey make a lot of shiny shiny gadgets in south korea.
We might have to pay more for TVs :(

we'll be ok, we've both got new ones!

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:37, Reply)
No, No we aint out of reach

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:37, Reply)
yeah we are

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:37, Reply)
If they can reach the US which is 3600miles
We are only 3400miles, I think thats what it said the other day
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:45, Reply)
I don't imagine, despite our posturing, that we're important enough to be a target.
Not that they can even seem to get a rocket in the air so far, let alone four thousand miles.

I have seen their nuke programme

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 16:06, Reply)
Yes, there is. China have openly said
"Start a war and you're on your own, lads".

There's no way at all NK will attack SK knowing full well the US will steam in immediately and they'll have no help at all. None.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:38, Reply)
The US will not steam in immediately.
THere's no way in hell any country could do a proper land invasion to North Korea except the South, and they'd need to go to a Total war footing which I don't think they're willing to do.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:41, Reply)
And there's only so much a air campaign can do.

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:42, Reply)
It could take out any significant military capabilities they have.
In fact, isn't the reason North Korea is doing all this because the US has sent a few spy planes over to see which bits they would need to take out, if necessary?
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:49, Reply)
The logic of getting angry because you're being spied on
and then getting all your military out to have a good old sabre rattle, showing the world exactly what you've got and where, escapes me.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:51, Reply)
They're not exactly known for their common sense though.

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:53, Reply)
No, they're doing it because the UN imposed the harshest sanctions yet.
And the South and the US are doing military manovers near their borders.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:54, Reply)
Military manovers sound well gay.

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:54, Reply)
If only the US had naval and airforce bases strewn around the Indian Ocean.
If only they thought to land their troops in South Korea. It'd be SK's military supported by the UN. It's unlikely the US would go in unilaterally, I'll admit, but they wouldn't have to worry about it for this one. There's not a country on Earth that wouldn't be happier without the Kims in control of NK.

The only thing historically that has stopped the US stamping out NK is China. That protection is no longer there. Is was China and the USSR that brought the last Korean war to a standstill and there's no support there anymore.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:45, Reply)
I bet the US feel silly now.........Ohhhhh wait I see what you did there

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:47, Reply)
1 million man trained army.
That wasn't there in the first war.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:50, Reply)
Yeah, pretty scary for the guys on the ground.
But then the guys on the ground will be supported by the rest of the world including airforces. I wonder what sort of a hole a few daisy cutters will make in a wall of a million men.

They'd have to be suicidal. There's no way they could win.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:53, Reply)
They don't stand in one place.
They're spread out in dense rainforrest. To put it in context it's three times the size of the Iraqi army at the time of the Iraq war, and better equipped. They have 1600ish Military aircraft. And enough artillary already pointed at Seoul to drop 5000 rounds an hour.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 15:59, Reply)
Poor Seoul. They still wouldn't win. You must know this.

(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 16:02, Reply)
They could win, all they have to do is make it more costly than America/UN/NATO are willing to accept.
It's what happened in Vietnam.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 16:06, Reply)
Well yes, they could force a stalemate. That is what happened last time, after all. With Chinese help.
Incidentally, last time there were 1.6 million men on the NK side of the war compared to 0.9 on ours. All I'm saying is the numbers sound scary, but the reality doesn't necessarily match up.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 16:08, Reply)
They might have 1600 aircraft but there are almost all 40+ years old
A couple of squadrons of MiG-29s that the pilots are barely allowed to fly in due to fuel restrictions.
(, Tue 9 Apr 2013, 16:37, Reply)
This is like that time travel kill hitler shit.
Go, chompy, go take your sniper riffal to North Korea. YOU CAN STOP THE THIRD WORLD WAR BEFORE IT HAPPENS.... GO, NOW, TAKE HEED MY FRIEND, MAY GOD BE WITH YOU.

I'll look after the misses.
