is it true they're still not entirely sure how the bouncing bomb worked as the plans got lost?
Only famous place I've stayed is the old gaol in oxford, that is now a sort of weirdly morbid hotel.

Not sure but very possible
as the plans were kept secret long after the war, which is why the bomb in the film was almost spherical, the real one was more of a cylinder, etc.

They re-created it with an empty bomb and a Dakota in Canada I think

The Lancasters had a hydraulic system to spin the bomb backwards for the same reason.

It worked
the pilot was a fucking nutter though, he had to be to fly low enough for it to work, which shows how dangerous it was at the time.
