I was watching BBC Breakfast this morning
It’s been 70 years since the Dambusters raid. They were interviewing the only remaining member of the raid, At the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa which used to be the headquarters of 617 squad, I have stopped there a few times.
Where have you stopped that has historical links?

Alt:Lunch?

Alt:alt: Has anyone mentioned Chicken Thursday yet?

Alt: bangers and mash and cauli cheese leftovers

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:02, Reply)
I'd rather eat a dead dog's fanny than set foot in a Subway

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:04, Reply)
Rather limited lunch options out here.
I did have a very healthy breakfast today though.

Cool a sweaty overpriced sandwich made by a drooling cretin that takes four hours to put together and is dripping with a combination of jism and an unidentified liquid

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:05, Reply)
Yeah but it's "fresh" yeah, so it's good for you

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:06, Reply)
eat fresh, stay safe, we're lovin it

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:07, Reply)
is it true they're still not entirely sure how the bouncing bomb worked as the plans got lost?
Only famous place I've stayed is the old gaol in oxford, that is now a sort of weirdly morbid hotel.

Alt. Scrambled eggs
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:02, Reply)
Not sure but very possible
as the plans were kept secret long after the war, which is why the bomb in the film was almost spherical, the real one was more of a cylinder, etc.
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:05, Reply)
The documentary they did last year was good
They re-created it with an empty bomb and a Dakota in Canada I think
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:06, Reply)
Dakota?
Is that the plane?
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:07, Reply)
Yep

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:07, Reply)
I know there was one of them history shows about it,
Where some dudes tried it, but I've no idea what the outcome was.
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:06, Reply)
It was really rather good
They had to spin the "bomb" using a drill before takeoff
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:08, Reply)
I'll look it up,
I like a good documentary.
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:09, Reply)
That plane crash one was good too

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:12, Reply)

I've a boring office day, so I might stick one on now
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:19, Reply)

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:20, Reply)
The Lancasters had a hydraulic system to spin the bomb backwards for the same reason.

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:41, Reply)
It worked
the pilot was a fucking nutter though, he had to be to fly low enough for it to work, which shows how dangerous it was at the time.

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:05, Reply)
The thing is, if I was faced with the fucking laughable quinoa and mung-falafel yurtwrap which you are
I'd be happy to defer eating my lunch pretty much indefinitely.
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:06, Reply)
That sounds delicious.

(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:13, Reply)
We went on lots of walks at Ladybower which is where they trained for Dambusters, they have a tiny cold museum on the dam itself, it's quite nice.
I live in Cork now where nothing of any value has ever happened. I mean some uprising against the English yeah, but that's not 'of value'.

Alt: Yeah probably

Altalt: You did just now
(, Thu 16 May 2013, 11:04, Reply)
I met a man from kerry yesterday. he swore at me. at least I think he did, the man was near incomprehensible and I have irish family that I understand fine.

I like the artwork on the noses of the WWII planes.
I've never stayed in anywhere with interesting historical links that I know of, but I did once stay in a proper old Tudor pub, and in the morning they served the full English just so, with a sprig of parsley on top, for fuck's sake.

Alt: grease - lots of grease - I'm hungover as fuck.
