This is primarily the problem, I think.
Lack of money forcing wage freezes which, via inflation, translate to pay cuts. Cost of living rising without increased wages leads to less money, leading to less spending, leading to economic stifling, leading to companies forced to let people go or lower wages.

It makes perfect sense at a superficial level, though I'm no economist.

You do seem to have a better grasp on the situation than the Chancellor of the Exchequer though.

(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:20, Reply)
He's not an economist, either.
This pisses me off. If you're in charge of the country's money, you ought to either be qualified for it or follow the advice of those who are.

Minsters are hardly ever "qualified" in their particular areas

(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:29, Reply)
Which is fine, they're qualified to be politicians.
They should, however, be listening to the people who actually know what they're talking about beyond canvassing and lobbying etc.

The fact that fucking Gideon thinks he knows better than the bloody Treasury is a travesty.

Which is why we have a civil service.
Pricks like Osborne have plenty of advisors letting them know what pricks they're being.
He ought to pay more attention.
(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:31, Reply)
You don't need any qualifications whatsoever to be a politician
you just need to be able to tell convincing lies, and have enough wonga to bankroll your campaign.

It's a strange paradox though.
If you think about supermarkets (step in with the details nakkers) which is important because combined they're massive employers.
Tesco wants to increase profit margins to make it more competitive, so it limits wages, adds flexible working zero hour contracts etc thus decreasing it's wage costs and increasing it's profitability. Shares rise. Asda, Lidle, sainsburys morrisons etc follow suit. Now over the course of months/years tens of thousands of people have that little bit less to spend on Wine, luxury food than they did before. So sales go down.
Efficiency in that way spread out over a sector damages everyone in the long term.

If it helps, my pay hasn't been frozen at all these last few years
does that mean I'm helping the economy?
(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:22, Reply)
Probably.
Mine's been frozen for four years, though I think that's more to do with the opportunism of my company and the main factor for me looking to leave.
(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:25, Reply)
that sucks, although considering your company's sector thing may have been a bit tight for them
The recruitment agent I met this morning wants to put me forward for a role that pays between £7k and £17k more than my current role, i don't even care if the job is shit for that.
(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:27, Reply)
I'm thinking of moving into marketing, actually.
Specifically technology implementation. Putting in digital signage systems etc. Some of the tech they're using is really fucking cool. Like face recognition in billboards so they can tell how many people walking past are looking at the advert and what demographic they belong to.

The whole Big Brother aspect of it gives me a fucking great bone-on.

I love a bit of "big data"

(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:30, Reply)
Oh yes.
God, I'm so horny right now.
(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:32, Reply)
That's basically what I do, although because the NHS uses shitty bespoke systems I have no really transferable skills.

(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:37, Reply)
Don't you mean it's what you're supposed to do instead of pissing around on here?

(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:38, Reply)
You're well funny you are.

(, Thu 13 Jun 2013, 13:45, Reply)
don't be silly, analysis and evaluation skills are the same across platforms
they just need a bit of adapting to the the data delivery method
