Reading a book.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:42, 1 reply, 12 years ago)
I started reading another Stephen King but then found out it's one he never finished
so I might stop now before I waste more time.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:44, Reply)
Not read much of his stuff. I enjoyed IT though.

"christine" was v good
and "pet sematary" or however he spells it incorrectly
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:46, Reply)
I'll have a look. Ta.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:47, Reply)
there's a bit in pet sematary that will make you cry, soppy breeder that you are

Christine, Carrie, Salems Lot and The Shining
That's all the Stephen King you really need.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:47, Reply)
I might try reading Misery, as I really enjoyed the film.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:48, Reply)
Yeah, you'll probably enjoy it then
If I remember rightly, it's actually very similar to the film...unlike a lot of the other adaptations.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:49, Reply)
There is a good series in the Guardian at the moment
where a guy is re-reading his books in order. He basically said that Christine was pretty shit.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:53, Reply)
Well, he's wrong

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:57, Reply)
He explained that the narrators character was totally underwritten, as was the femal character
and he said that there is a terrible section where the story goes from a first person narrative to a third person omniescant without explaining why, and that the main narrator inexplicably knows things that were revealed by the unknown third person.

Sounds pretty bad to me.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:03, Reply)
nah, it's good
although i haven't read it in years, i must admit
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:05, Reply)
Is it about a frustrated author from Maine that has writers block, so he goes somewhere to get inspiration and ends up getting into some sort of supernatural strife?

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:47, Reply)
Never actually read any of his stuff

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:53, Reply)
He's good
He's better than I thought he would be considering he gets labelled as a "horror" writer, which to me implys pulp fiction. But he's actually a very good writer, not just about scary stuff.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:54, Reply)
see also jilly cooper
yeah it's bonkbusting but it's intelligent and well-plotted and funny, not like the other slushy shit in that genre.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:55, Reply)
I loved Riders, Rivals, Polo, TMWMHJ, Apassionata and Score. Not read her latest one though.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:57, Reply)
they went downhill after polo
wicked and jump were... not good. and the one about the painting, i forget its name. not good.

polo, rivals, riders, score, appassionata, in that order. the rest... meh.

also, you're GAY.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:00, Reply)
I nearly failed my second year exams because I was spending too much time reading Polo and Rivals.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:00, Reply)
i used to nick them off my mum
my parents were super-strict about things like exams and school, but never lectured me about anything else, i did what i liked. however, riders persuaded even my mum to say, "now you do realise that real life isn't like that, with everyone jumping into bed with everyone all the time"

hmmmmmmmmmmm.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:04, Reply)
It's probably a good job she can't see you now.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:09, Reply)
are you saying you don't believe in heaven
or that she isn't in it?
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:15, Reply)
The former.
But also the latter if I'm wrong about the former.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:21, Reply)
oh nice
did you grow that hedge yourself?
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:22, Reply)
I don't get this.
But I actually replaced two fence panels last weekend.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:24, Reply)
i was implying that you were hedging your bets
hence nice hedging, did you grow it yourself
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:29, Reply)
Oh I see. That is almost funny.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:33, Reply)
i know, right?

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:34, Reply)
I bet you read Barbara Cartland as well.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:57, Reply)
Shall have to give him a look at some point
Going to read Catch 22 next, had it on my shelf for about a year now, keep being pestered to read it.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 12:59, Reply)
I got about three chapters into that before giving up
fucking lolwakki bollocks.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:00, Reply)
It's really not.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:01, Reply)
Yeah, it is.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:01, Reply)
it's a test of intelligence
those who give up.... well...
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:15, Reply)
I didn't even make it to the end of the first chapter. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:01, Reply)
If he was any good, he'd have written a twenty book series, like Terry Pratchett!

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 13:02, Reply)
The only reason Pratchett has written so many books is that he keeps forgetting them, so thinks he should do another.
