I'll be picking up some* samosas & stuff from my favourite place in Cov...
...Then going to Gloucester for a family birthday party and BBQ. I'll be driving so there will be very little 'falling-down water' for me - I'll have to save the heavy drinking for tomorrow.

Mornin'
Been working since 6:30am to ensure that my whole weekend's overtime work is done by 10am

I have (apparently) an apple tree, a cherry tree, rhubarb and strawberries in my garden. I intend to plant a lot more stuff
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 8:58, Reply)
I intend to plant YM very hard
Morning SC :D

I believe there is quite the queue for this
Going to try and clear the bottom of the garden today so I can build some raised beds for veggies. I also need to work out just how to replace the wood/glass part of my greenhouse as only the brick base is OK
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:09, Reply)
I'll gaz you a few suggestions for the greenhouse
Did you get sorted on the materials for the raised beds
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:13, Reply)
Not as yet, no
Going looking round today

If you want to replace wood _and_ glass, put down some sort of plastic sheeting and sledgehammer the thing to bits. Roll it up in the sheeting and take it to the dump.

As for a replacement: If you have the cash, go for double glazing. There's nothing like fresh-from-the-vine cucumbers in late december.

I know it's not the same, but it's similar.
I've wanted a pet tortoise for ages. I haven't got a lawned garden though, so going to have to wait until my next house :'(

On the 'must have' list: lawned garden, semi, off road parking. I've been looking at some places near me in York.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:47, Reply)
It came as quite a shock I still don't really know the thinking behind getting me one
However I have now trained it to be hand fed.

Are you looking at places that may benefit in value from the HS2 line?
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:50, Reply)
HS2 is a funny bugger.
I was looking at Church Fenton, but then the HS2 line was confirmed as going right through it, ruining the property values.

York's getting a connecting hub, and I reckon, realistically, that it'll go in pretty close to me. I live in West York, Holgate, and the main rail line goes past about 5 mins walk from here, the station is only a mile away from my house and there's loads of waste ground round the back of the station which was due to be developed.

If they put the hub in within walking distance of my gaff then the value of my house should shoot up even further.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:53, Reply)
I gather that Church Fenton will just have the tracks but not a local stop?

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:57, Reply)
Precisely.
It's a lovely wee village. The normal rail line goes through it and it has a station, but HS2 needs new lines which will go through a part of the village. People are facing CP on their houses. It'll ruin the village.

York's getting a proper hub connection.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:01, Reply)
oh yer, also check out keepintime
it's legendary soul & funk drummers playing live with Cut Chemist, DJ Babu etc.

But it's not real music though Harters, always remember that 'songs' played on an acoustic guitar are music, while anything involving DJing just isn't music or musicianship.

NEVER FORGET.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:44, Reply)
Right you are
who came out with that pile of crap?
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:46, Reply)
Captain Placid.
It's clear to me that playing acoustic guitar in a pub in Coventry with his mate Pooflake is head and shoulders above anything that's been done by Cut Chemist, DJ Premier, DJ Babu, DJ Shadow or Geoff Barrow.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:47, Reply)
Yep! That'd be me

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:48, Reply)
Are you trolling poor old Brittas?

Partly

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:07, Reply)
No, he genuinely thinks that.
It's tragicomic really.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:56, Reply)
Like I said - partly

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:58, Reply)
So you really think that, say, DJ Babu has no talent and that it's just the emperor's new clothes?
See Placid, if you base your entire view of hip hop on the cheap commercial shit you hear on the radio then that's like judging all punk by Good Charlotte or all folk by the standard of Mumford & Sons.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:59, Reply)
I'll take a listen to DJ Babu & surf through the associated youtube stuff and let you know

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:13, Reply)

That's nothing apparentley Nakers hates Jazz
Trying to explain how varied it was didn't really help him
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:53, Reply)
I think it's just ignorance really. Not necessarily in a bad way.
John Coltrane is tremendous- emotional, technical, badass. Ditto Miles Davis. But if you just think of Acker Bilk when you think of jazz then you'll think it's shit, innit.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:55, Reply)
Agreed

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:56, Reply)
Giant Steps is fucking amazing.
The audacity of Coltrane on that track is breathtaking.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:56, Reply)
also see Roy Ayes

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:01, Reply)
He's sampled on loads of stuff.
You into DnB? I was perusing old metalheadz tracks the other night and this Lemon D one came up, it's got a proper G Funk vibe to it. Proper Amen business as well:

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:08, Reply)
nahhh it's DnB so it's not really music
now throw down an Acoustic guitar in a nice Coventry pub and we are talking proper music.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:10, Reply)
I wonder if Pooflake is as gifted a musician as he is a writer?

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:12, Reply)

I too have picked cherries the other day. Took me nine runs of the canner to process all 36 kilos.

Cherry supply=ample

Alt: Will be cooking around 8 kilos of chili later, then canning most of it.

Also, time to wash stuff, the kid did a technicolor yawn all over the sofa.
