i'm not quite sure i understand what a neckbeard is
first i thought it was an actual thing, then i thought it was a reddit insult for fat internet losers... is it when people are so hairy that their beard grows down their neck and onto their back/chest? or is it implying that they have so many chins that they also have a neckbeard?

help me out here........

Both.
I think it may even be a synecdoche (a term /concept I learned in English Lit many years ago, swore I'd never need and am quite possibly misusing now) it's a (shit) style of facial hair which has become synonymous with a certain kind of nerd.
