I shall have one of those while I make dinner I think.
Or should I finish the bottle of wine?
*edit* There is some beer in the fridge, or more in the cellar if it runs out. Help yourself.

Evenin' all.
I've been on here all day. My IRL friends are mostly away, but my b3ta friends are here - hurrah!
23 days until my holiday - yay! Wee Witch, are you tanned after your hols (asked by someone who is white-to-the-point-of-blue all year, whatever the weather)?

ooo, where are you going?
Tanned?? Not really. More a sort of light gold. An improvement on my usual "more colour in a corpse" skin tone though.
Edit: Maladicta, not so hot up here today. Quite refreshing actually. Big thunderstorm last night cleared the air a bit.

ooo. Chili. Please :)
We had a big thunderstorm Monday night (and in the process of getting home and away from it having spent the evening with Mr Maladicta I fell into a pothole and twisted my bad ankle with the most sickening CRUNCH. It's now purple) but it hasn't made much difference to the heat :( it's now just dry heat, not humidity.

I'm off to DC for a few days (and whilst there will see The Resident Loon and Citadel) and then I'm up to Detroit for a few days to visit the friend who named me clendrix. Then it's back home for my friend's wedding. Phew!
Maladicta - poor you! Very painful, I'm sure.

It does it a lot, annoyingly - it's been weak for years, and when it does go, it bends at a 90 degree angle sideways and usually flings me onto the ground. Mr Maladicta's seen it happen a couple of times and watched me cry with the pain, so he thinks I should go to the doctor about it but I'm not so sure there's much that can be done for it. No heels for a couple of weeks, anyway :(

Maladicta, go to the doctor.
Sometimes a bit of physio can help. I had some on my "dodgy" knee joint (the result of one too many cycling accidents) and although it hurt to start with it did strengthen the muscles. I haven't hurt it recently (crosses fingers in case the damn thing gives out tomorrow).

Trouble with ankles is
once they go, they go and it's likely to keep happening.
*apologies for doom-laden statement*
There are exercises you can do to strengthen them that a physiotherapist could give you (or you could consult Dr Google!).

It's done it on and off since I was quite young although I don't remember the initial cause. I can usually tell when it's threatening to go badly because it trembles a bit and usually with in the next few days I'll go splat on the pavement, usually in front of lots of people, so anything that'll stop it doing that would be amazing!

yes, mention it.
I know what you mean about doctors. My blood pressure is on the low side when taken by a nurse, but rockets when a doctor takes it. "White coat syndrome" they call it.
I think it goes back to being hospitalised at age 3. Have hated the buggers ever since!

I hate medical appointments of any kind and have done since I started uni. I was always OK with them when I was younger because aside from hayfever and having the tonsil problem when I was four that didn't let me keep any food down, I'm pretty much never ill.
The uni medical centre staff are for the most part a bunch of miserable cunts and I frankly hate dealing with them as it usually means interrupting the 45th coffee break of the day for something "trivial". I won't go there usually unless I suspect I have teh bad AIDS.

Carbon steel
is the basic stuff that rusts.
Stainless steel is an alloy with nickel that doesn't rust, and costs a fair bit more.
I think this may have happened because I uploaded a BOM before I should have, and the purchasing guy ordered these parts made- and the contract has not been finalized, and the customer wants all stainless.
...oh fuck...

Doesn't sound like a great mistake.
Is it at least decent carbon steel, that could possibly be re-used for something else?

It may be a very big mistake.
I may have prematurely ordered them without realizing it... but if that were the case I wouldn't have written the BOMs unless I were told to, which would mean we thought we had approval for the project as bid, and we bid it as carbon steel with stainless wetted parts, which is what's being built...
I don't know. I may be okay or I may be in SERIOUS shit. Because once you start cutting steel to dimensions, you can't just send it back- it instantly becomes scrap if it's not right...

On digging into it
it looks like I'm in the clear- we had a purchase agreement for carbon steel with stainless wetted parts. I would not have written the BOMs without being instructed to do so.
Unfortunately the project manager is on vacation until Monday... but he does have a Blackberry, so I'll buzz him anyway. That's why they pay him the big money, after all!

I'm tired of being a grown up and having to do grown up stuff like sort out bills and fuck about having to call places that will keep me in a queue for more than five minutes when apparently they want my money. Trying to set up direct debits so they will make your life easier is a fucking pain in the arse.
Oh a brighter note, we had a pyometra case in yesterday for a dog who weighed 12kg and had a 0.55kg uterus and ovaries. Fuuull of pus and stinking. Was loverly. She walked out of work today very happy. Her owner was less happy with the bill.

Hi PoD
Other than that I am very tired. Been getting to sleep around 2ish each night as its so hot and getting up at 8 each morning for a few weeks now. I need more like 7 or 8 hours sleep a night to function properly, so have been a bit cranky last few days, so tonight I'm aiming to be asleep by midnight.
How are you doing me dear?

I've somehow been fitting in the necessary 7 hours sleep between all my messing about doing nothing and working. I hate my work.
My wrist is getting more and more ruined by the day, and I hope to get a doctors appointment tomorrow to try and get something done about it.
I say 'it', but both of them are sore these days actually.
Still warm as down near London?

The doctor last time said it was repetitive strain
But I don't fully believe them.
I blame it on a combination of using laptops, playing guitar, bass and drums too much.
And I want it to get better. It was sore while just standing there at work today.

And I want it to get better. It was sore while just standing there at work today.

I was so expecting a
'That's my story and I'm sticking to it' then :)
One yay for today is the head honcho came in for a short visit until I pounced and asked him to get the email and internet fixed. He agreed that I didn't break it - see last night's post if you're interested - and after trying himself with no luck (unsurprisingly as he's not an IT person) has called out BT to come fix it like I suggested in the first place.

Read last nights post
You were trying to do a good thing which should have been done anyway.
Hope they don't ban b3ta.
And it's good that it's gonna get fixed.
Does your work have a usage policy?

Not really
You can use the net for anything work related and check email. Don't take the piss with it is the policy in general. So I literally log onto b3ta to check gazes, scan the hsh thread if I have time, check my email and then go back to work.
Edit: You can look at whatever you want outside your working hours though and on lunch breaks.

Tomorrow, the weather is going to be nice in the morning, but 27 degrees and raining in the afternoon, so I'm going to get up early so I can get as much out the way in the morning as I can before it gets too humid to do any work.

i - my dad's computer has been eaten by a virus back oop north. i am a twat who does not back anything up, and all my music is on itunes on that laptop. 99% of it's also on my ipod. if his laptop can't be fixed, can i upload tunes from my ipod back to the computer?

You can indeed get your music back onto the PC :) you have to unhide the hidden folders on your iPod and look in iPod_Control. They're all in folders that start with F0.
As for ignore, I have no idea :( don't think you can find out...

Yes you can, but not using iTunes. You need a third party program which allows you to extract your tunes from the iPod and copy them to a computer, from where they can be imported back into iTunes again.
There's a Mac program called Senuti which does this well. No doubt there are numerous PC equivalents. Have a look on VersionTracker.com

So once you fall off the sofa, you're lieing on the floor next to your laptop and instead of picking yourself up, you log onto b3ta. Nice!
@Swipey: AFAIK, you cannot find out who is ignoring you.

Hello ancrenne
Good extended weekend then?
I'll have to go soon, as I'm getting tired, and also a bit hot in the nether regions.

I just had an idea for a way of cooling down your laptop. Make sure you drink lots of drink beforehand. While in bed with your laptop, attatch a hosepipe made of a thermally conducting material to your own 'hosepipe' and place the other end near a bucket. Wrap this hosepipe round the hottest parts of the laptop. Once the laptop is heating up, just piss and the relatively cold piss should conduct the heat away from the laptop.

@ancrenne: What have you been up to all these b3taless days?
BTW: Nice meeting you.
Re cock soup: Funnily enough, I had completely forgotten about that but when you mentioned it, it all came flooding back.

Nothing to do with cake. I'm in bed with my laptop and it gets so hot my cock's getting a bit uncomfortable.
@spakka - interesting water-cooling system, but really all I need is some sort of spacer to stop direct nob-laptop thermal contact.
And with that, I'd better get some kip, or I won't enjoy getting up in the morning!

With my idea, you save electricity because you don't have to keep rotating a fan.
G'night.

@ancrenne: While they may not have been b3ta-less days for you, they were ancrenne-less days for the rest of us.
Have you given up vegetarianism then and resorted to canibalism?
Yes, I got back OK. Eurostar trains rock!

I had a
Battered, deep-fried Mars Bar this evening.
It was lovely.
For the record, I'd recommend it. With caution.

believe me, it doesn't need to weigh two pounds for me to increase by that much. I am surprisingly expandable!
Ancrenne...oh. Well, needs must. I smoked a lot. It was medicinal.

Yes if it's melted cheese. No if it's solid or powdered.

I once tried a vegetarian "Bangers and mash".
The 'sausages' tasted alright - I just found the 'gravy' a bit dodgy.

I'm going to bed, as I need lots of sleep.
I'm tired and I may be sleeping on a bench in London tomorrow with two young men.
