what did/do you want to be when you grow up?
I had big plans with my friend Howard to hunt for treasure. Wrecked Spanish ships that sort of thing.
We had convoluted plans for where we would find stuff, and how we would get it. Submarines and one person hovercraft fit into the plans somewhere.
I also fancied being a pirate.
(TRUFAX: My ex was related to the notorious scourge of the Caribbean, Henry Morgan)
or an architect.

I'm reading Howard Marks' book 'Senor Nice' at the moment, it's about his quest to find out about Morgan as he believes that he's also related to him.
That means your ex is related to Howard Marks.
*Edit* just realised that you said 'your friend Howard'. Not him is it?
BTW I wanted to be a gamekeeper.

That or a rally driver. But my mum wouldn't let me as it was too dangerous for her little girl *sulks*
I could have been a rich rally driver!

I've met him once, and seen him around Leeds a few times.
I wanted to be a journalist or a novelist. I am a qualified reporter, but decided local news wasn't for me. The latter could be achievable if I got my finger out.

but I have asthma so I couldn't join up. As I was telling TGB the other day, I've chilled out with Howard Marks at a festival for a couple of hours. He was really, really nice.

I can honestly say I have never known what I wanted to be when I grew up and still don't have a clue but if I had been clever then I would have toyed with the idea of being an astrophysisist.....you see, I can't even spell it.

I was obsessed with dinosaurs from an early age.
Then, a few years later, I discovered aeroplanes, and decided I wanted to be the next Biggles.
A few years after that, I decided I wanted to be a physicist and it all went rapidly downhill from there...

in a hot, dusty office with a middle aged woman who loves talking about the menopause while I spend all day on the phone, talking to stuck up traders or people who appear to have had half their brain removed.
Living the dream!!!

And open my own exotic pet shop.
Then I realised that I hate people, and don't like animals that much either.

I really, really, really wanted to be a train driver. Not these crazy modern trains though - proper steam locomotives.

I wanted to be a fast jet pilot in the RAF. But I wear glasses so that was right out.
Ever since I have wanted to be an Actor. Nothing doing on that fron though!

I had dreams of flying Tornadoes over the desert. Wanted to be one from the age of 6, joined the Air Cadets at the age of 13. Then I had epileptic seizures and I suddenly became ineligible.
My eyesight is perfect, I was easily fit enough at the time and I passed the tests the cadets set me with flying colours.
What a bitch.

*takes deep breath*
A brain surgeon
An assassin
A Dog
A Bat
A Boy (grew out of that phase though)
A Vampire
A Vampire Bat
A Writer
A Lottery Winner (hmm, still hopeful of that one...except I've never bought a ticket...)
A Singer
A Singer-Songwriter
An Organist
A Flutist
A Doctor
A Pilot
A Cowboy (well, cowgirl)
An Eternal Student
A Singer again (still working on it)
The next Jilly Cooper (working on that now)
I didn't imagine that I would end up managing 3 record labels, which is what I do now. Gah office work.

I'm wondering, have I asked this before?
I want to be a blacksmith.

I wanted to be an astronaut. Worked really hard at school up until I was 14 and discovered that my eyesight was a bit off and that I needed glasses! That put paid to that,, and I never had a backup plan.

When I was in Junior school, being brought up as a good Catholic boy and going to mass regularly, I decided that I wanted to be a priest.
However, growing up I learnt that the priesthood didn't pay well, I wouldn't be allowed to have sex and my social life would be zero.
God has repaid me for turning my back on him by giving me a large dose of irony in my life.

Then Prime Minister (after winning a school election aged 8)
Then Journalist - (kind of achieved this)
Then Singer / Songwriter - (kind of achieved this too)
Then I wanted to work in IT - (I have achieved this - what was I thinking?)
Now I just want to grow old and fat(ter) and moan at young whippersnappers about how they don't know they're born.

I wanted to be a chef, scientist and racing driver.
These days, I'd love to be the owner of an independent record store.

I wanted to be a scientist who fannies around in a lab all day wearing a white coat mixing obscure chemicals together.
And whaddayaknow!

but as I'm keeping quiet about it, I won't tell you what it is.
Before that, I wanted to be an inventor.
BTW: Here's a link to the "If you could have any job in the world what would it be?" post.

I used to do the Rock Show on my uni radio station. It was a whole fuckin' lot of fun!
Even when we nearly got the station closed down by threat of legal action...
