A day out in London
I turn to you, faithful, fluffy B3tans, for advice.

I'm going out to London for the day on Wednesday, armed with only a one day Travelcard.

What's the best places to go and visit, preferably free?

Try
the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. They're virtually next door to each other and I find them more fascinating each time I go.

Cheers guys. In all honesty, the Science Museum was the one place we'd decided to go LOL.

Didn't realise there was another museum next door too, so thanks :)

You must go to Buckingham Palace and see the Queen.
I hear she doesn't get out much anymore : (

National Gallery
Every time I've been to London in the last ten years I've gravitated there. It's completely awesome - old masterpieces everywhere; I just choose a room and wander round in a daze for an hour or so, then choose another room, and I walk out into the London lights with my head spinning with prettiness.

Also
..walking through the dodgy bit of soho in the early evening - definitely not too late - is a massive education..

The South Bank
from Waterloo to the Tate Modern then across the Millenium Bridge to St Pauls is a really nice walk.

Tate Modern is worth a visit
All free and generally fun things to see too, aside from the sheer awesomeness of the vast building. Approach it from the Millennium bridge too and get a great view of London.

Oh, and you can also catch a river bus from Tate Modern which will take you down to Tate Britain in Pimlico - it's called Tate to Tate and I think it's covered by your travelcard, or at least cheaper with it.

Ultimare scary night out
Get really, really sober. Then take a stroll through the west end at a leisurely pace. Admire the throngs of chavs, ponces, thieves and pushers as they wend their merry way through our capital city.

Then run off screaming and steal some cheap vodka off a tramp

Go up to Covent Garden
There's muchfun in the form of random ladies warbling and random gentlemen juggling their balls (always grabs the attention) with plenty of other interesting things to look at.

The best bit though is that, as long as there isn't a performance on at the time, you can go up to the amphitheatre bar of the Royal Opera House. There's a big long balcony and you can look out over the whole of the West End, for free, which is rather wonderful.

Oh, and if you get hungry, go to Hung's (formerly Crispy Duck) on Wardour Street, just up from Leicester Square and next to the Pizza Express. By God it looks dodgy from the outside (and it's not that much better on the inside) but you've never truly experienced pork until you've been there. As it were.
