Monday morning question
My colleague asked me this this morning:

What is the best sequel ever? It has to be an amazingly good film in it's own right, but also when compared to the first film.

My colleagues answer was Terminator 2. Great film, better than the first film, but the first is also very good.

One Armed Boxer II
without doubt, if you like Kung Fu films.

Empire Strikes Back isn't exactly shit either.

hmmmm
The Dark Knight.
Fucking loved it.

...
Terminator 2, every time.

Although that could be because I've never watched any of the Godfather films...

seconding Aliens
We're in the pipe, five by five.

That, or Lost Boys II. Or Bladerunner II - Batty Returns. Which is only in my head I have to say.
Also, Hustler: Barely Legal 2.

the trouble with Empire and Aliens (they were my first thoughts too)
is that the first films in the series' are totally awesome as well.

The Dark Knight is a good call though

I've no idea what my favourite sequel is
But my favourite sequel title has to be airplane 2: The sequel.
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 11:19, Reply)
Definitely
The Godfather part 2. The first is superb, the second one just as good if not better.
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 11:22, Reply)
Aside from the aforementioned T2 and Aliens
Mad Max 2
Evil Dead 2 & 3
Empire Strikes Back
Indy
Die Hard 3
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 11:35, Reply)
Ooooh, Evil Dead, nice one!
How about Dawn Of The Dead. Much prefer it to Night Of The Living Dead.
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 11:37, Reply)
Definitely Dawn of the Dead
I even didn't mind the remake
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 11:41, Reply)
The remake
Was decent.
I've heard awful, awful things about the remake of Day Of The Dead though.

Like... Zombies that can scuttle across the ceiling kinda awful.

Godfather II
Good choice, but the best sequel ever? Has to be Toy Story II.
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 12:22, Reply)
Star Trek 2
is also miles better than the turgid piece of crap that preceeded it.
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 12:36, Reply)
@DG
Agreed. When asked to list his top ten sci fi films of all time, Stephen Hawking agonised for a long time before leaving ST2 out.
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 12:43, Reply)
Ooooh!
What was on his list?
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 12:44, Reply)
Then again...
I do prefer Blade 2
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 13:21, Reply)
High School Musical 3: Senior year.
You get to see Zac Efron without a shirt on and the dance routines are the best ever.
(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 13:44, Reply)
Toy Story 2 gets my vote too Che
purely because it's too easy to vote for Aliens, Godfather part II and T2 (all of which were superb sequels).

However, Drunken Master 2 (Jackie Chan movie) is also a mesmerising, action-packed movie, the stunts defy all reason. One of my fave kung fu movies, the original plus this sequel are the reason why I hold Jackie Chan in such high regard.

The Devils Rejects
was an excellent follow up to the work of genius that is,

'House Of 1000 Corpses'.
